Blocking is still a major problem

No one blocks. Double teaming doesn't move defensive linemen out. Pulling linemen rarely actually block anyone. Tight ends wiff on blocks. Even wide receivers block poorly. Compare GT's blocking to Clemson's blocking. They were better even against one of the best DLs in college football.

if you went to the GT game you could see it. No 1 got up.. no 1 yelled.. no 1 got loud.
gets worse every year.
we just sit there and expect awesomeness.

Yes
I don't care if we win 2-0, betting GT is the goal by any means possible. And I support our tigers regardless.
Then again, my experience predates Dabo, let alone 2014. It includes losing to Wake 12-7. You want to see a bad offense, go back to that game.

if it is, as you say, then we need to do away with the motto

Best is the standard.
"just beating" teams in this conference this year won't necessarily cut it.........we don't control our destiny right now..........and may not the rest of the way.
we'll see how it goes, but I'm sure dabo doesn't think it's unrealistic to score more than 14 against a bad GT team.

Just because a team is "bad" does not mean they have a "bad" game against you. GT did have a good game on their end.
I agree with the motto but you are missing it.
The "best" is the team giving their best - the best of their abilities. That is the standard. That has always been Dabo's standard. All In.
""Sometimes people may take that the wrong way. You don't see win national championships up there. That's not our goal. Our goal is to be the best we can be,” Swinney said. “We want to be our best. Whatever God gave you, be the best you can possibly be. That applies in every area whether it's the best coach you can be, the best player, whatever."" ~ Dabo
As much as that game was "off" every single guy gave 110%. They never quit, they did not hang their shoulders.
If that was a Tommy game, phew, you would see them give up.

your seats and parking spot to be empty when you show up. If they are not, then Clemson has to answer to you for not holding up their end of the deal.
any expectation after that is solely on yourself.

14 pts against a bad GT team, and #### poor play by the offense probably had something to do with that, right?

cant do anything about coaching, play calling, playing.. etc
all we can do is control ourselves and what we do. We are not exactly living up to "best is standard" in the stands.
My seats are in top deck north which isn't exactly the loudest group anyway.. but it definitely has gotten worse.

you had to notice a drop off in fan participation as well.
especially if you were going in the 80's and early 90's.

until the defense started playing a prevent-like zone defense.
They made some other plays here and there but nothing too significant.

Venables, as talented as he obviously is, has a history of laying back and letting teams make yardage to run out the clock. He does it a LOT!

Correct. Back in the day, the aim was to "Pancake" the opponent. Today, the OL just tries to make contact and chicken fight. No push, no hole created......just stand there and box like a kangaroo.

Great Play - Bad blocking=bad offense
Sep 20, 2021, 1:15 PM

I don't care how good of a play call you have; if it's blown up before it really gets an oppportunity to work - "it won't work"! All the talk of Elliott shows how little people know about offense! If you don't block it; you could have Joe Brady and that 2019 LSU offense and "it won't work"!
You have to block it. Then on the chance you block it - the QB has to "not air mail it or throw it at the receivers feet or throw the check down that gains 2 yards over a 30 yard gain"! No play caller in the world can just compensate for "no blocking"!
