Interesting info about FSU Rev Share contracts

Looks like FSU is adding details to contracts that agents were not expecting like fines for 'Banned Substance Abuse' and players that lose sports equipment. Adding clauses for sports performance and injury clauses that prevent playing.

Ha! In other words, the wild west is being reigned in and players are being presented with actual contract instead of bags of money. Unfortunately this will lead to a players union as all schools can scope their own contracts as is. The day will come where players want equal contracts if they transfer meaning there will be a players union just like the NFL, time just hasnt caught up yet.

Here is ine article pointing at Rev Share contract changes.

Yes. Collective bargaining in "College" Football is inevitable. By the way, they really need to stop calling it College at some point.

More Rev Share breakdown by sport. This is expected breakdown of $20.5mil by per player by sport. I am sure this will end up in many other lawsuits. For instance, suggested avg for football player will be $140k vs softball player $3k. I am sure someone will start suing for equal shares.

Without collective bargaining I'm not sure how any of this will hold up in court honestly.

One of the articles I read said that most the front loading of NIL for top players will come from the Collectives as the Rev Shares will be contractual. That said, Collective Bargaing will not be far behind as we know Title IX will be part of some lawyers scheme to make money.

My reaction, several points.

In no particular order.

1. Everything that is going on now is temporary. It is just part of the transition from where we are now to where we are going - A SuperLeague in which players will be employees, the league will be governed by some entity other than the NCAA, the players will unionize and contractual language will be negotiatied between the governing agency and the union. (See NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, etc.)

2. As far as the transition is going, Clemson and FSU are both being pro-active, not re-active. they aren't flying by the seat of their pants or taking wild leaps. Every step they are taking has been carefully planned. They are not coordinating and agreeing to handle the transition exactly the same (don't expect Clemson to have exactly the same contract language as FSU has) but they are both ahead of the game in terms of being prepared to handle the transition to universities having a payroll dedicated to athletes. The lawsiuts are just one example of them being very prepared and very proactive in handling the transition. Clemson's Paw Journey has obviously been preparing for this transition for a few years.

3. I'm sure every school has had lawyers planning for at least a couple of years, if not longer, developing the precise language for university/athlete contracts. Universities were unprepared to handle NIL deals and it showed especially in the first year or two. They are much better prepared to handle the next phase of the transition.

4. Whatever else happens, there will be a bevy of lawsuits that will be in court until the transition I described in #1 is in place and active.

It certainly seems to be that if you must’ve been giving out a lot of their school gear as a recruiting tool hoping to use it as a closure and instead of the kids played them and just got a lot of cool gear. I’m glad to see this catching up more clauses need to be put in to hold these behind the scenes Agents to be held accountable to looking out for the best interest of the young men and not just riding their star tag.
