The ref F*d up when he called it a completion and turnover, End of story! Replay team made it right!

I think the problem

Is that they are now being taught to let close plays continue so it can be sorted out by replay. But then the presumption becomes that the whatever call would have to be made for the play to continue is correct and overturning it would require the burden of proof.
The solution, to me, is for the refs to have the option of letting the play continue on close plays but then ruling the play as they saw it. In other words, if they thought it was incomplete, but close enough to review then let the play continue but rule it incomplete on the field after the plays completion. Thus the burden of inarguable evidence is on the other ruling.
Of course that opens it up to players getting hurt unnecessarily during plays that should've been blown dead.
But in the end the current system gives an evidential advantage to whatever ruling is required to let plays continue.

They are now claiming all sorts of "egregious" bad calls.
1) Dobbins non-TD incompletion 2) Roughing the punter 3) Targeting 4) PI on the play after targeting
Never mind that those were definitively correct.
I can understand feeling different about about the Ross catch/non catch. I can see how folks can simply see something different in that. But the others are by rule simply correct and arguing against them shows true blind-homerism or a lack of understanding of the rules of the game.

whining in the streets.
The only difference is that the refs didn’t initially call it a fumble “just in case”

incredibly similar it was, and not a whisper of a comment from the same broadcast crew.
Too bad they didn't show a super slow mo replay of that one, lol.

I swear - I was thinking that as soon as the play happened. It's crazy too because I would have sworn Herbie being the observant announcer he is; was going to call it out.
No controversy. No issues. Hmmmm. Peculiar.

One dude says he only took 3 steps with the ball but it's more like 4 or 5. May have took more steps than JR8.
Another dude says he was bobbling the ball but you can't see the ball from that angle.
The facts are in the Fiesta Bowl the ref made a very human mistake given the bang-bang speed of the play. At that speed it's hard for a human to make an absolute decision. The reply both had the advantage of playing the replay several times and considering all things relative to the rule book. I trust the slow methodical judgment of the replay booth versus one ref who had a split second and no replay ability. The Wisky incompletion was near identical.
