1. You will probably get your wish someday.
2. Just hold your horses and see what occurs after next season. But then again, the roster, if it stays in tact, could be good and relatively deep. Will greatly miss Tyson and Galloway. But Tyson was a huge surprise, so that means some coach on this staff helped him see the light.
3. Please decide if you are going to cheer and support Clemson or if you are going to gripe, whine, complain as you stomp off and decide to not play with anyone because no one was paying you enough attention and doing what you want to.
We can check Tigernet to see who chooses what.
Until next year, Go Tiger Basketball... or Leave Me Alone Tiger Basketball.

Winning changes everything.
Sorry.
Win and the crowds will come. Win and the money flows. This recipe has been demonstrated over and over everywhere. Only a loser demands winner’s rewards without earning them.

you must've went to alot of games this year since we won

a vast majority of our games this year. Thank you for your support!
We won 14 out of 20 in conference. You want to know how many times we've won 70% of our conference games in our history? (2) times in 87 and 89 with Cliff Ellis.
Make all the excuses you want. Duke still won the conference and the ACC sent 5 teams. They thought those 5 were better than a team who won 70% of their conference games so i guess the ACC can't be too far down. I don't expect Clemson to win 70% of their conference games with many coaches b/c history shows me its not common here. So i have to give Coach B some props on a successful season for Clemson bball.
Keep in mind i'm game with firing a coach that sux. If he wins 8 games in conference next year then it makes sense to have a discussion about all this and it will be valid. But not after this season. WE just come off as a immature, devouring fanbase after a great overall effort by the team.
And you and I both know 70% conference record, 3rd place finish, winning 5 of the 8 games played against the other teams in our conference who were selected for the tourney (including the conference champ), was, and historically has been, good enough to get in. Its almost like they just forgot about us.

We also had potentially the easiest conference in our history and we did have historically the weakest OOC slate than any team to ever make the tournament.

Most fans that ACTUALLY GO to the games have no issue with Brownell. I go often and never hear boos etc. The minority than come here to complain are spoiled brats that think football is only successful if we make the playoffs every year. These people are idiots. We are a rural school with no basketball tradition to speak of. To think a change of coaches every few years is going to miraclously change that are DELUSIONAL !!

Agree. Unless the 2 million people in the RDU area classify it as "rural". Winston-Salem is half a million. Clemson + Greenville = <100,000.

I would never boo our players

So I don't boo at games. But if I could boo at Brownell exclusively, I would. The expectations aren't super high at Clemson for basketball. I get that. But we shouldn't settle for making the tournament only twice in a 12 year period. And that's not even the worst part. The worst part is getting EMBARRASSED in games we have no business losing and EMBARRASSED in must-win games on national television where we fail to look remotely competent or competitive. Literally all we had to do was keep the game close against UVA and we probably get into the tournament. But instead we got ran out of the gym.
The players and fans deserve better. He's had PLENTY of chances to prove the doubters wrong.

yeah....this is simply not true at all. Two games in LJ last year, and almost everyone sitting around me and overhearing some walking around the arena were all chatting negatively about Brownell. It has been a major topic amongst all fans, and the majority public opinion is for him to be gone. So much so that the AD had to call a special media meeting just to let the fanbase know he was being retained to quiet the chatter.
I am not worried, Brownell has proven time and time again that good seasons are not his norm and he usually follows up a great season with several bad ones. It may take another season of disappointment but I know brighter days are coming and Clemson basketball will have a new coach sooner than later.

This is actually on my top 10 of dumbest post read this week. You believe the crowd is going to sit there and boo the coach. Most of us have a little more class than that. Just because people do not boo means absolutely nothing. Crowd sizes say a lot. Glad you get to go! Wanting and expecting something better is not delusional. Doing the same thing for 10 plus years and expecting different results is not only delusional it is borderline insanity. GO TIGERS!

Well if I’m on the committee there are 3 unexplainable losses and our best wins were in LJ.
Needed to make a statement in the ACC tourney and got blown out of the gym by Va. I had figured most thought it a long shot to make it and they would have been correct.
Just looking at our resume not the why or why not other teams did or did not make it.
In my personal opinion NC State is not a good team period. Even if they did not make it I’m not thinking that they were what held us out. I had seen no scenarios besides 2-3 wins in the tourney of us making it this year.

Yes a great year, but the structure of selection puts more weight on bad losses than good wins. Thus, you can’t lose to crappy teams like UsC, Louis, LoyC, and BC. That understanding falls on the coaching staff to coach those games like tournament games (lose and go home, which is what happened). The reality of this season is we were literally one win away from being in, whether UVA or the 4 mentioned above.
All that said, CBB has to do it again next year (plus the missing win) and have a great recruiting class or he should go and we take our chances this was our ceiling.
In the meantime, the admin has to be ready to bring in a marquee coach either in name (see Stoudamire at GT) or record (coaches who make the tourney, big leagues or small).

We *almost* had a great year. Losing to Loyola-Chicago, SCAR, and especially Louisville broke it.
Win Louisville, we tie for the ACC regular season title, and almost certainly move into the NCAAT.
Winning an extra handful of games against the dregs of the ACC (ACC schedule favored us by not giving us the top teams more than once) was surely nice, getting to 14-6 (vs. the normal 0.500 +/- one game) was nice. Beating a few of the dregs by large margins, also nice.
Losing those inexcusable games...yet again...is the real reason I'm wanting to see CBB replaced. Getting blown out by UVA in the ACCT was embarrassing, but is not really in play as the reason why I want CBB replaced.

But relax, little sister. If you got your feelings hurt, then cry, gripe, complain all you want. It's what we are seeing more of these days.
He didn't get fired. He won a lot games. Clemson should have been in NCAAs. First year with new metrics which make no sense.
Time for folks to quit crying about firing him. Over and done with until next year.

you can't fire him for having one of his better years but you also don't have to reward him just because... Neff is looking at the whole body of work and did the right thing IMO.
If you fire a guy after winning 70% of his conference games and finishing 3rd you come across, from those in the coaching community, as someone that doesn't know what he's doing.

Or you come across as someone who has looked at 13 years of past performance, who sees next year's roster as being less than this year's, who see next year's ACC schedule being far more unfavorable than this year's, who basically put forward an "NCAAT or bust" ultimatum at the end of last year and who saw that dream squashed by inexcusable losses like Loyola-Chicago, SCAR, and most especially Louisville.

Tyson was not a surprise at all. 5th year player who finished the previous season playing well. You say surprise I say he played to expectations.
If everyone comes back next year I see similar results as this year competitively, but we may have a worse record. Tougher schedule in ACC play next season.

Tyson was no surprise to me, either. I have posting history wherein I hoped that he would choose to use his COVID year instead of going straight to Euro ball (I didn't and don't see an NBA career for him). And when he did announce his return, I posted that CBB just got a 5* recruit.

Nobody wants to lose. But losses happen. So do big victories. So does dominating a conference opponent three times. That's the problem with today's system. It's not who you beat it is who you lost to. So when the record isn't as good next year, but there is a higher strength of schedule, keep the constant whining, moaning, and complaining to yourself.

Not sure why these posts ignore the truth
Mar 15, 2023, 6:01 PM
|
|
You try and push people into 2 boxes where you define the boxes. The truth is, you can be in many different boxes. People want the basketball program to be successful. They want it to be truly competitive, win or contend for ACC titles on a regular basis. They want to make the ncaa playoffs and not simply sit on the bubble. They see after 13 seasons that the needle has not moved and seek change. Nothing at all wrong with this. Others think that the 13 years are good. Fine. When you say silly comments like your #3 - you are trying to put them down and trying to make yourself sound superior as a fan. Well, they and you both are entitled to opinions. They also are going to cheer and support Clemson every single game. They are every bit the fan as you are and don’t need insults and comments like you made. They see keeping the coach after 13 years of limited success as hindering the possibilities. You see 13 years of limited success as progress. Depending on your position, both can be true. But insults and rudeness is totally unnecessary. Virtually everyone that posts simply wants the best. There are some exceptions to that - when attacking other sports, coaches, charities, players, etc as simply a diversion to basketball. Just different opinions on how to get there. Tonight’s game should not be close. The next one will really start our nit. Just keep winning.
