In our 2 National Championship winning games we rushed for a grand total of

20

Jan 10, 2025, 3:13 PM

91 yards in the first game and 135 yards in the second game. Our Quarterback was the second leading rusher in both games for us.

We passed for 420 yards and 347 yards with 6 TDs and 0 interceptions.

Our history of recruiting and championships suggests we aren't going to be the bigger stronger team typically in these matchups. We win by being the better throwing and catching team with a mobile QB.

We're close. Probably just a new DC away.

But...in the Tide was Rollin' Away game, we got robbed of offensive yardage

when AJ took that pick six back, and again we got another interception and ran it back to the BAMA 47...Those two plays robbed our offense of probably another hundred yards....LOL!!!

When AJ took that interception back, Venables was playing chess. The defenders showed man defense, playing tight at the line of scrimmage. When the ball was snapped, the defenders swapped who was covering who, allowing AJ to step right in front of the pass to walk it into the end zone. I've got a feeling Venables had studied that offensive alignment and situation, knew exactly what Bama would want to do, and developed a defensive scheme that would result in a pick-6.

Maybe Mike Reed studied it and developed the coverage switch.

Bro Cade is not Elite. Cade is a solid D1 QB. Won’t play on Sundays. Can he win us a NC. Maybe. But he’s not Elite.

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn't say he was. I realize not everyone wants to recognize the improvement

he's made and the talent he has and how well he played this year, which is odd for someone who considers himself a Clemson fan, but he'll be there next year. Bo Nix wasn't an NFL QB after his third year either. He also wasn't nearly as good as Cade was in his third year.

As for the Nix comparison, I will definitely give you that. I thought Bo Nix was the same as I do Gabriel..just an mediocre to ok level QB that had the benefit of being on year 4(maybe 5-6) of college and had a lot of snaps under their belt, but the league would eat them alive. I don't really see Gabriel getting drafted very high and in my opinion year two for Bo Nix will really tell the tale. Once NFL DCs get film on you, unless you step your game up they will have you. Will Cade take those monster steps next year? I would love to see it. Go Tigers.

As I read your post, I was about to comment on the need for a dominant defense, but as I read further along, I see that you well covered the topic... HERE HERE!

Our country won't go on forever, if we stay soft as we are now. There won't be any America because some foreign soldiery will invade us and take our women and breed a hardier race.

Yes but we have also NEVER had an oline coach like Matt Luke. We are going to be able to rush the ball on a lot of teams next year. With Cade and our receivers and Oline that is going to take a ton of pressure off of our RB’s which will allow them to grow as the season goes on. Anyways GO TIGERS!!!

Well Alabama sold out to stop the run!
What was the average run to pass for the year?

I remember back then all the talking heads said we were a “finesse” team and weren’t tough enough to win against the big boys. Part of what got the ROY bus started.

100% correct. No way we could match the physicality of Alabama in either win. We were closer in the second game. We out coached and out schemed them both times. Got to get back to that.

By the way The mobility of the QB and passing of QB was key. After that we go get the most immobile QB that we have ever had DJ. Who had that brain fart? Maybe why Streeter is gone.

My opinion: we certainly were never going to fully match the physicality of Alabama in those NCS games but I agree by the 44-16 game we were much closer physically than we were a few years earlier. There was a play I remember where we were inside the 5 and our O-line basically shoved the Bama D-line into the endzone and Etienne waltzed in virtually untouched. We were wearing them down and had them on their heels. And I was fortunate enough to witness that beat down in person! What a trip that was.

You take what the defense gives you and we had QBs, RBs and WRs that could take it in the passing game.

To me, the common denominator amongst all National Championship teams is to have the threat of a rushing attack with your RB's and QB. If the opposing DC sees a weakness in the rushing attack (a hurt RB, weak OL, or a statue for a QB) he knows you're one dimensional. If you have a complete rushing attack, it's enough to keep the opposing defense honest, and it opens up the entire playbook on offensive play calling, resulting in big shots downfield, or a big run by either the QB or RB's.

It looks like we will have all 3 phases of a strong rushing attack this year. With Cade's athleticism, a stable of RB's, and Luke coaching the OL just makes it all that more possible. I think we're positioned for a big offensive year, and hopefully a run at the championship.

In our first nat’l championship game we had 155 rushing yards against Nebraska. Only 134 passing yards. Defense ruled the day!
