Clemson 2018 and 2019

Yeah I saw another post and it made me think of my own

But I firmly believe that the 2019 team was probably the best team we’ve ever had.

Trevor played the entire year, everybody stayed healthy, for the most part.

Eitienne just couldn’t be bothered by the mid competition in the ACC.

We did similarly in 2018, but there were some closer calls i guess until we got to the postseason.

I’m just trying to differentiate

I would argue that 2019 played a tougher playoff with Ohio State for one, and then against the QB playing better than Tim Tebow at Florida. Along with 2 receivers that have at some point been called the number one WR in the NFL

And we were still up 17-7, and I thought we had a chance.

Cotton Bowl versus Notre Dame was really a breeze after the first quarter if I remember correctly. I think Notre Dame just didn’t belong. Not like Ohio State did.

Corner play could be the difference in deciding between them.

I think 2018 team was better. Defense was a little better and we still had all of the power rangers. 2019 still hurts. Trevor would probably be considered our best ever QB if we pulled that off.

2018 Clemson D was one of the best in CFB history. 2019 was good to great at times (thanks BV) but not elite.

Agree though. If TL would've won it would've made him the undisputed GOAT. Still, 3 CFP appearances and never losing a regular season game ain't bad.

IMO it's 2018 hands down

Elite DL + OL + Awesome skill position players. Once TL settled in it was basically over at half in every game.

2019 was when the cracks started showing up with the O. We were elite at skill positions but not as strong in the trenches. Each side lost some dudes so naturally it was going to be a step back in some spots.

If I had to rank the best CFP Dabo teams I'd have it as:

1 - 2018 Clemson
2A - 2016 Clemson
2B - 2015 Clemson
4 - 2019 Clemson
5 - 2020 Clemson

Y’all seem to forget the 1981 team… that was a complete team that wasn’t going to be denied. That defense was awesome, and was tough. And man could they hit!!! I’d put that 1981 team at number 2 behind the 15-0 team.

Regular season I agree. Post season that 2018 hit its stride and was completely dominant. Especially that front 7. LSU would have had trouble with 2018 Defense. JB would have been running for his life.

2019 went to that Tampa defense or whatever you call it because our DLine wasn’t that good.

Analytics stuff have/had the two teams rated almost

identically. 2018 had a better DL and probably a little bit higher ceiling overall, but the 2019 team wasn't far behind.

We definitely played much tougher competition in the 2019 CFP. That Ohio State team we beat was loaded with talent and then LSU at the end of the season was peaking about as high as any CFB team has ever peaked. You could easily argue that Chase and Jefferson are the two best WRs in the NFL and basically have been since they got there. And Burrow was on fire late in the season.
