They had a funk about them beyond their hit Love Shack. They were way ahead of their time IMHO.

I wish I'd seen the B-52s again, because...

I caught them at a show on Clemson's baseball field on the Cosmic Thing Tour. It was a Fall date but unseasonably cold and the poor band looked absolutely miserable. They didn't encore because it was so cold. Love Tractor (my favorite Athens band) opened and was similarly "can we please go somewhere warm?"

But not the “Original Drifters”, Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels??
I am impressed with your list but you must not have been hanging out on the Isle of Palms.
BTW: I think I lost 1/2 of my hearing at a Grand Funk Railroad concert in 1970…front row center.
Go Tigers!

Stevie Ray Vaughan twice Eric Clapton - twice Buddy Guy- Twice Jerry Lee Lewis BB King- probably above Spin Doctors Jeff Hamilton (jazz drummer) The Everly Brothers - twice w Albert Lee and Buddy Emmons Jackson Browne / David Lynley Gordon Lightfoot
96 Olympics closing ceremony (list from wiki): An array of performers culminated in the finale which was led by Late Show's Paul Shaffer,[7] and conductor Harold Wheeler. As with most closing ceremonies, the athletes were invited onto the field below the stadium to sing and dance along with the music. Among the performers were:
Gloria Estefan Sheila E. Faith Hill B.B. King Wynton Marsalis Little Richard Pointer Sisters Tito Puente Buckwheat Zydeco Stevie Wonder Al Green

I didn't know there was a version of Kansas still floating around. In the mid-'70s, when I was young, that was my favorite band, but I never saw them live! "Carry on Wayward Son," "Dust in the Wind," a lot of good songs!

There's a lot of disparity there...somehow I think you got to see some before they "made it".

Don't get out much. Doobie Brothers with Pablo Cruise in Littlejohn. Smokey Robinson at Freedom Weekend. Ditto for Hootie and the Blowfish and Drivin and Cryin when they moved the event to Anderson. Huey Lewis with Robert Cray in Columbia Johnny Lang at the House of Blues
I volunteer at a local event with live music the first Friday of every month between May and November. its a free show with food trucks and a local brewery. Several years ago we booked Marcus King right before he took off. I mean, RIGHT BEFORE. He actually flew in from Europe the Tuesday before he played out show. People kept asking how much the tickets were. Could get their heads wrapped around the idea that we had Marcus King for free. This past November we had Town Mountain. I've had two people text me in the past two weeks they are going to see them this weekend.

Going semi-chronolgically, but more thematically. (When I was young, we saw what came to town or campus. I've seen the '70s artists of my youth mostly on reunion tours. Post-college, it was a lot of the Athens bands. Bruce Cockburn was my gateway act for the singer-songwriters. I caught a lot of post-punk & new wave at it's peak. LCD Soundsystem converted my from indy rock to a lot of indie-dance and indie-electro.) Doobie Brothers (first concert - Greenville Memorial Auditorium, and most recent concert on their 50th Anniversary tour) Charlie Daniels Band (also GMA) Jimmy Buffett (in Littlejohn) The Rolling Stones (in Death Valley) Boz Scaggs Steely Dan Peter Frampton Joe Walsh Lindsay Buckingham R.E.M. (twice) Pylon B-52's Love Tractor (a handful of times) Vic Chesnutt Vigilantes of Love Peter Himmelman Bob Dylan Neil Young (twice) John Prine (a few times) Lyle Lovett (a few times) Glen Campbell Leon Redbone Leo Kottke (twice) Loudon Wainwright III, and, later, Rufus Wainwright Guy Clark (at least twice) Bruce Cockburn (many times) Colin Hay (twice) Steve Forbert (thrice) John Hiatt Joe Ely Emmylou Harris (thrice) Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (a few times) Peter Gabriel Laurie Anderson (four times) Sting (a couple of times) Elton John Paul McCartney U2 (twice) Roxy Music Bryan Ferry (thrice) The Tubes Duran Duran Big Audio Dynamite New Order Siouxsie and the Banshees Public Image Limited Tears for Fears (twice) Ultra Vivid Scene (I went to a lot of concerts at the Masquerade and I can hardly anyone I saw there, now, except for UVS) The Fixx Thomas Dolby The The (thrice) The Cranberries (I think the Sundays, too, but they are easy to confuse) Tori Amos (twice) Michael Penn (with Toad the Wet Sprocket opening) and Til Tuesday (before Aimee went solo and married Michael Penn!) Stan Ridgway The Breeders Squeeze Bruce Cockburn (many times) Robyn Hitchcock (many times) Syd Straw (many times - and she's become one of my dearest friends, over the years) Grace Potter and the Nocturnals Lloyd Cole Tom Tom Club David Byrne The Juan Maclean (and a Juan Maclean DJ session) LCD Soundsystem (thrice) Sh!t Robot YACHT Hot Chip Despacio (presses the boundary of 'concert' but I count the experience) Japanese Breakfast Thievery Corporation Stereolab (twice and counting - at this stage in my life, far and away my favorite groop (sic))
I've also attended 160 operas!

Dave Matthews Band Patti Smith (and that was cool, because that was a private show when I worked for her publisher).
Oh, man, I have a story from that one! So our company went through HR directors like Spın̈al Tap went through drummers. One got fired for groping someone at his first sales conference. You'd think the HR director would know better.
Anyhoo, our next new HR director was a woman who lived in the same town as me. Very polished and stiffly well put together. And this is her first sales conference with the company. Very Westport-y but also very HR-y.
So the show is a big surprise event and (lo and behold) the new HR director is a huge Patti Smith fan. Patti is warming up and chomping on a wad of gum. So it's time to start playing (this is in the bar at whatever resort where this conference was) and Patti Smith hocks this gum across the room, which almost everyone thought was kind of unnecessary, but new HR director launched out of her chair like a kid racing for a foul ball in the grandstands. She grabs the gum with a bar napkin and races back to her seat like pizza rat. I think we were taking bets on how long she would last, before the set was over. It wasn't a week.

Practically every early-70s band you can think of. I was an usher in the Charlotte Coliseum for a couple of years in High School. I saw everyone from Elvis to The Grateful Dead...

We had to be there about 3 hours before the doors opened so that was a lot of dead time but we got to listen to the sound checks and speak to some of the roadies which were cool.
I was assigned the floor near the front and was just sitting in a seat kind of dozing off. All of a sudden I hear someone say, "Hey bud, want a coke?" Guess who that was? I dang near peed myself.

Mercy, I guess so! What a story.
I never made an Elvis show myself, but friends and relatives say he was quite the live entertainer!

Yes, he really was cool. He came back to Charlotte again in Feb.'77 and passed away that August. He truly was The King...

Seems like some of you 'more seasoned' music lovers would have caught him somewhere along the line.

A Clemson favorite. I was surprised at Clemson dances when both the Impressions and Four Seasons also had a rather "blue" act for the times.
