the prestigious Washington and Lee University has taken action to remove a plaque that honored Robert E. Lee’s horse, Traveller.
These are sad times.

They never have. They go find one thing after another to ##### about.
After reading an article on the Redskins yesterday I’m starting to wonder if the Indian’s ever had an issue with it.

Over 60% of Indians had an issue with it. That still.leaves a lit who didn't. The majority did though, but it wasn't overwhleming.

Good grief, the horse? C’mon now. Maybe they’re jealous if you know what I mean. That’s all I can come up with for this nonsense.

Robert E. Lee's horse is nothing like those brave service dogs that battled in places like Afghanistan. Those dogs are amazingly loyal and brave. They are fellow soldiers.

Respectfully disagree. A horse that is ridden directly into the fire of battle isn’t just as brave and loyal? Both animals were doing exactly what they were trained to do and the horse was significantly less able to defend itself. Different situations and times. Not sure I can really differentiate between the bravery or loyalty of these animals.

Answered my own question
Aug 14, 2023, 11:22 PM
|
|
The plaque was placed there in 1971 by the Virginia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a group that also funded monuments to the KKK and was still publishing pro-Klan propaganda as recently as 1936. I wonder what might have been going on back in the 60s and early 70s that would have made people like that decide to build a bunch of new monuments to Confederate "heroes"..

I'm reading about W&L on Wikipedia now. This is interesting
Aug 14, 2023, 11:44 PM
|
|
"..students at Washington College formed their own chapter of the KKK and were known by the local Freedmen's Bureau to attempt to abduct and rape black schoolgirls from the nearby black schools. There were also at least two attempted lynchings by Washington students during Lee's tenure [as president of the college]."

Well if it’s on Wikipedia….
I really feel for females in this day and age, seems half the persons “ assigned male at birth” sit down when they pee nowadays. You whack off to some woman beating thug in George Floyd, yet get offended by a horse.

I have regrets just reading a lot of these posts. I have always tried to be open minded and listen to all opinions but right now I have a very hard time seeing either end of the spectrum . ☹️☹️

What in the actual...

I live in Virginia, an hour from W&L. They have already sanitized the Lee Chapel, which despite R.E. Lee's role in the Confederacy and the events that have happened there (the speech venerating Lee that got White Supremacy as we know it going - look it up), it IS the final resting place of Lee, much of the Lee family, and of course, Traveller.
ugh.
