Now I could get behind an absolute speed limiter on cars. Say 85mph or something. I think semi's already have something similar. But to limit speed using GPS, no way.

Speed kills. Without it, you're just having a heart attack or something else.

It’s the sudden deceleration that gets you.
But the “speed related deaths” stat is utter BS. A guy gets drunk and runs his car into a tree at 60mph in a 55, they’re listing it as a speed related death. The culpability of speed as a cause of the death is massively overhyped intentionally for economic reasons.

But a sincere, prolonged campaign of education and enforcement of “keep right except to pass” would greatly alleviate:
-Gridlock and congestion (less need for perpetual infrastructure projects via higher traffic efficiency) -traffic safety (less speed differential between cars in random lanes, less passing on right) -road rage
They have to be ignoring it intentionally. I don’t see any other explanation. It’s the one thing they could do to make the biggest impact on safer roads.

Im noticing a new annoying phenomenon on highways

It used to be that when there was a left lane backup, most people were just biding their time waiting to get around the offending road hog at the first possible opportunity.
Now with more and more people having radar cruise control, I see a certain level of indifference building up, where massive trains form but people are just happy to sit there for miles on end in the left lane because their car is doing all the work and they’re almost unaware of whether they are traveling the speed they would like or going slower.
In the past year or two I’ve gone around more trains of 15-20 left lane cars in the right lane (I know shame on me but hate the game, not the player) without a car to be seen in the right lane and no aggressive merging required on my part. I thought taking people’s brains out of the driving equation might help, but I think this middle ground semi-autonomous phase we are in right now might just make it worse before it gets better.

You do strike me as the guy that think he personally own the interstate and he just grants us the privilege to drive on it. We really appreciate your generosity.

so blatantly moronic that it resulted in you simply hurr durring around.
Lakebum1® loves drivers like you.
But since you attempted to peg me, I drive ~9mph above the speed limit and never cruise in the left lane.

way back in the day.
I remember the officer telling me that above 80 or 85 the statistical risk of fatality jumps significantly in a collision.
With cars maxing out at the same speed, then we would potentially just get 2 cars side by side blocking the entire interstate.

increase the speed limit gets people to their destination faster, off the interstate quicker, less traffic, safer for everyone
