Conference affiliation

May 13, 2012, 6:11 PM

This is the reason we will not go to the Big 12. Barker and the BOT are not giving up these Us News academic rankings for the Big 12.

ACC:
Duke-10, UVA-25, Wake-25, UNC- 29, BC- 31, GT- 36, Miami- 38, MD- 55, Pitt-58, Cuse- 62, Clemson- 68, VT- 71, FSU- 101, NC State-101.

Big 12:
Texas-45, Baylor-75, Iowa State-97, TCU-97, Kansas-101,
Oklahoma-101, Ok State-132, K State-143, T Tech- 160,
W Virgina- 164.

I still don't get that arguement. How does being surrounded by better academic schools help you on the football field? There is nothing common with academic standards in regard to an athletic conference

I don’t get it either. How does joining the Big 12 bring down our academic standards? I understand that good academics and good athletics are not mutually exclusive, but I don’t see how our conference impacts our academics. Do these rankings that Barker cares so much about really look at the academic strength of our football schedule?

If they are worried about the academic standards of each conference then they need to look at how the ACC handled UNC and their academic fraud to see how important it is to the conference

Because its a ridiculous argument anybody that would use this as an excuse to not get in a better athletic conference is crazy

Would you go down the list in the SEC for me please.

May 13, 2012, 6:32 PM

I'd say you can start with Vandy.

Thank you !!!!!!

IRRELEVANT!!! Its an ATHLETIC conference....

May 13, 2012, 7:48 PM

has ZERO to do with academics. Ask Vandy, or Stanford how their athletic conference is affecting their academics.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure if Stanford of the Pac-12 is a good example***

I agree with you that it's irrelevant. But Barker does not.***

Re: Conference affiliation

Conference affiliation is NOT part of the formula the US News and World Report uses to calculate the academic rankings. If that were the case, why isn't Georgia and Florida begging the ACC for membership?
