Oliver Purnell is only 63 years old!

Could he take our current roster and incoming recruits and get us to the postseason for the next 7 years like he did before with nowhere near the facilities?

Wouldn't it be great to return to that level of success

for the next 7 years! Plus, since Brownell took over for Purnell and had success with his players, it would be interesting to see what Purnell could do if the shoe was on the other foot, so to speak.

Probably not much. Purnell isn't the kind of coach that

turns lemons into lemonade. If he were to be successful at Clemson (again) it would start on the recruiting trail and pay off in 2-3 years.

I'm just having some fun with those who say our expectations

are too high when you consider where we were just one coach ago. Of course, Purnell is not an option. The Purnell years are the minimum of what our expectations should be and we aren't even close to that after 7 years. Our facilities are much improved from the Purnell years and the football success should both be having a positive effect on basketball recruiting.

Shaka Smart was at Clemson for 2 years: 06-07 and 07-08

THis is Purnell's Clemson record:
2003–04 Clemson 10–18 3–13 9th 2004–05 Clemson 16–16 5–11 9th NIT First Round 2005–06 Clemson 19–15 7–9 9th NIT Second Round 2006–07 Clemson 25–11 7–9 T–8th NIT Runner-up 2007–08 Clemson 24–10 10–6 3rd NCAA First Round 2008–09 Clemson 23–9 9–7 T–5th NCAA First Round 2009–10 Clemson 21–11 9–7 T–5th NCAA First Round
It looks like OP's record sans Smart is pretty darned impressive.

Sure it's decent relative to Clemson history, but hard to call it "darned impressive" when he didn't win a single tournament game his entire career.
You must be joking.

He had the players that Shaka Smart recruited, after Shaka left. When he didn't have Shaka, the cubbard was getting bare.

Let's not go back to our previous mistake.
I know we're struggling, but he left because he knew he was going to be fired.
He was not going to take our program anywhere.

lost when the tournament started. To state that was a tournament win is a stretch that only his wife would make, Mrs. Brownell.

If OP could bring-in Shaka Smart as his main recruiter (like before) then I think they could develop a winning team in 3 years. But I doubt Shaka Smart would leave his head coaching position at the Univ of Texas to come back to Clemson as an assistant. When Shaka Smart left Clemson, OP's recruiting fell to "very poor." Within 3 years OP was gone. OP was not the main reason that CU had several good seasons in a row.
