gal in the middle backed off at the end because she thought she had it won. She wasn't able to see what was going on in that far outside lane, which was a speed demon chasing her down.

that will happen to you sometimes. I think you are right she may have let up, but any college runner with a decent coach is taught to run past the finish line. The woman in lane 4 didn't lean until the last stride, and I didn't see Richardson lean at all. Minor details that can cost you the race at that level.
