If not for that play, we would have played for the National Championship that year, becasue we would have been ranked #1 and I don't think we would have lost to NC State later in the year. As it was, we finished 9th in the final vote.

CJ Davidson's fumble inside the 10 last year in Tallahassee. That would have been the game winning drive if we hold onto that ball . Would have made us ACC Atlantic Champs . Gutwrenching .

Vince Taylor dropped an interception the play before that not only would have given us the ball, but it would have put us in field goal range.

Clemson would've probably gone undefeated that year and won at least a share of the national title. I don't think an undefeated Clemson team would've slipped up to NC State the way the '88 team did a few weeks after the puntrooskie.

Puntrooskie comes immediately to mind, but also
- The dropped TD pass that would have beaten Auburn in their stadium, and denied them a national championship
- Missing a wide-open receiver in the end zone against Miami that would have ended the game, instead of extending the tie
- The TD pass that Georgia Tech completed (i don't remember who, unfortunately) to cap an incredibly unlikely 2- or 3-TD comeback win over us in the final seconds
- Not giving the ball to Reggie
- WVU stripping the ball from Ellington and running it back - completely changed the game
- Tajh not having the ball stripped as he was going down against SCar in his last game against them - also completely changed the game

I was tempted to say the Ellington play, but I think the WVU beatdown was actually good for the program in the long run. It got us Venables.

Meant the QB but yes, now that you mention it, I wasn't sure the receiver was Calvin Johnson. I do remember that now, it was his "coming out party". We got him back a few years later at his "shut down party", though.

Our team was shellshocked after that and never recovered. 4 WVU TDs later and we should have just instituted a running clock in the second half.

That would have won us the game and changed the course of the season
Have to go with either of these 2: Davidson fumble vs fsu or snap over dw head vs fsu
Also, Sammy trick pass INT vs coots 2013

Got to pick 3.....
1) the play before puntrooski----we dropped an easy cupcake interception. 2) the late fumble last year at tally (or the bad snap...take your pick) 3) AK's drop vs BC

not quite a sure fire interception, buy man he should have caught that. i had completely forgotten that play. that's a chip shot field goal if we hit it. they had no time outs left. could have been a HUGE season for us.
some random plays on my list would be, in no particular order - matt gadget's missed FG against the chickens in 1996 or so. we had stormed back and would have sent the game in overtime - the offsides against auburn in 2010 - aaron kelly's drop against bc - the throwback kickoff return against the chickens in 1992 - one of many many plays against the noles last season - the snap against GT - one of the phantom holding calls against tech in the late 00's - the fumble against WVU - charlie missing wide open receiver against miami in 3 to game - missed extap point against BC in 2006 - one of the two fumbled interception returns against duke in 1989

Fullers fumble
Jul 22, 2015, 11:29 AM
|

Steve Fullers fumble on the Notre Dame 12 yard line late in the third quarter as we lead 17 to 7. I know it may not have changed the outcome, but we had the lead, momentum, and were in the red zone. Notre Dame eventually won the National Championship, and we got a measure of revenge in 1979, but that one would have been so sweet, especially against Devine! Punt Rooskie..... just as bitter!

Had #1 LSU on the ropes but we snapped the ball over our punter's head to set up the winning TD. We lost 7-0.
Winning that game may have jump started a better record during the '60s. Instead, the energy slowly leaked out of our program.

The obvious #1 and #2 is the puntrooskie and the dropped easy INT the play before (you can put those in either order), but after that... -Stoudt missing easy TD pass last year's FSU game (we win the game if not for that) -Davidson's fumble in last year's FSU game (we win the game if not for that) -Snap over Watson's head in last year's FSU game (we win the game if not for that) -Maryland's touchdown pass (or whatever you want to call it) in 1985 -Kelly drop BC game that would have won division -Matt Padgett missed FG vs gamecocks in 1996 -Lazzarra missed FG @ end of Bowden Bowl I

There are many but one still sticks in my crawl...52 yard field goal against Duke. Season started rough but we had gotten it together and rattled off 4 in a row. We beat #10 Miami Hurricanes in OT at their house the week before. Then we turn around and lose to Puke on a 52 yard field goal the next week....the first time the term "##########" came to be known.
To make matters worse I was visiting in-laws in Athens, surrounded by ogre looking mouth breathers, listening loud and proud on the radio when that stupid kick was called GOOD! #$%@#$%$%$%^$ my life!
