Why are all these folks wanting FSU to win?

I don't get that at all? We win the ACC and go to a BCS bowl if FSU loses and we beat State. So if FSU wins we don't win the ACC and we have to beat State and USuC to even maybe get considered for a BCS bowl? Am I missing something here? A championship and a BCS bowl game and some folks don't want that? Please explain that to me with a better argument than "we get to go to the Sugar".

...BCS game. And they're worried about what's better for the conference rather than what's better for Clemson. Winning the ACCCG is the most important for us. It guarantees us a spot in the BCS.

we would still get an at-large invitation to a BCS Bowl.
If you eliminate the automatic qualifiers, as things currently stand, Oklahoma and Notre Dame would be selected ahead of Clemson.

Let's put this out there: 6 BCS Conference Champs auto-qualify (and for argument's sake, we will use the current leaders of the conferences AND the current BCS standings for Bowl placement).
SEC - Bama ACC - FSU Big East - Louisville Big 12 - K-State Big Ten - Nebraska Pac 12 - Oregon
So that puts in the bowls 6 teams, with 4 at-large bids remaining. We can all assume that the SEC will get 1, Notre Dame will get another, and the Big 12 will get 1. This still leaves 1 spot, and when you look at the standings and who is available, based on Clemson winning out and defeating a top 10 SEC team in the last game, Clemson would be the highest-rated, best available team left.
What makes you think we wouldn't go?
BCS NCG: Bama vs. K-State Rose: Oregon vs. Nebraska Fiesta: OU vs. ??? Sugar: UGA vs. ??? Orange: FSU vs. Louisville
Now the interesting thing is, the order of selection after auto-bids are filled, and the bowls filling in replacements for NCG teams, is Fiesta, Sugar, Orange. We assume that the Fiesta wouldn't select ND because that would be a matchup people already saw this year. So there's a chance we could end up in Arizona, with ND then being selected by the Sugar against UGA (or insert SEC team).
ALL of this depends on who is selected for the BCS NCG. Because if K-State ends up in the Fiesta, and Oregon goes the NCG, K-State could play ND in the Fiesta, OU may be the replacement in the Rose Bowl with a HIGHLY anticipated matchup of OU vs. Nebraska (if the Rose decides not to pick a Pac-12 team, which it very well may) and we could be in the Sugar vs. UGA.
But if the Rose takes a Pac-12 to replace Oregon, it may come down to OU/Clemson in the Sugar. And at that point, it's a toss-up because their 2 losses would be to the #3 and #4 teams (most likely), but both at home. We would have a road loss to a top 10 team, and the Sugar would have a win-win with travel, fans, viewers, etc. Clemson vs. UGA would be intriguing (high-powered O vs. good D). OU vs. UGA because of branding and Sugar may want to start its Big 12 vs. SEC thing early (not legally, but just to get the excitement about the potential match ups).
Lastly, let's just let the season play out and see what happens. But I think an 11-1 Clemson team with a final reg. season win over a top 10 SEC team puts Clemson in the BCS somewhere.

...what will happen or who will float into the top 14. Plus Oregon State is out there. They probably won't beat Oregon, but you never know.
All I'm saying is that we shouldn't leave it in the hands of the bowl selection committee PLUS (and most importantly) we should OWN our conference at all times. It's about championships.

It all needs to be played out and we certainly need to do all we can to control all that we can control. What everyone else does is up to them.
As much as I'd love another ACC title, I think the thought of a Sugar/Fiesta Bowl against a team like OU, ND, UGA, etc. is far more intriguing than an Orange Bowl against Louisville/Rutgers. Sometimes, getting the at-large is not a bad option and this year may be one of those years. It also proves a point to the rest of the country (AKA the recruits) that your program is so good that a selection committee CHOSE YOU for a big bowl game. Speaks volumes.

but we make the same amount of money whether it's us or FSU in the OB because of revenue sharing. The only chance to make more money is for the league to get 2 teams into BCS bowls. Bowl money is split up evenly between every team in the conference.

definitely more certain if we get into and win the ACCCG. Lots think we are a lock if we win out to get a BCS bid. I never trust ESPN and the BCS

Risk vs. Reward
Nov 7, 2012, 12:27 PM
|

The risk to Clemson is greater if FSU wins out, because we're not guaranteed a BCS bowl if *we* win out. But the reward if both of those things happen is greater. Sugar Bowl sounds a whole lot more attractive than facing a Big East team in the Orange Bowl. It also sets up for a monster FSU-Clemson rivalry in the following years, which is good for us and for the conference--my primary concern there is in terms of postseason bowl quality. If we ever want anything better than the Sun Bowl and Tangerine Bowl (or whatever they call it), our whole conference must be more competitive.
Rooting against FSU is rooting for the safer, but not quite as rewarding, route. That's if you don't count repeating as ACC champs to be part of the ultimate goal. I think at this point repeating as ACC champs is a secondary goal to getting into the BCS.
I'm torn between both sides, but have consistently leaned towards seeing FSU stumble again so that we're able to defend our conference title.

There's also a couple million dollars riding on FSU and Clemson both winning out, i.e. that extra BCS bowl payout. There's no way a BCS bowl will take a 2-loss ACC team as an at-large selection.

Let the chips fall where they may, I'd love to win the acc but it's like being the tallest midget. We've won the acc, when's the last time we won a BCS game vs a top 10 sec team in new orleans?
