Insurance policies for players like Wilkins and Ferrell: How does it work?
College football fans around the country have differing opinions on whether draft-eligible juniors and sophomore should leave school and enter the NFL Draft or stay in school and postpone the NFL another year. The deciding factor, of course, is money. Specifically, they wonder whether the risk of injury is worth the risk of waiting another year for a payday. Full Story » |

I can still remember Marcus Lattimore's injury and although a Player on one of our Rivals, he had the Policy and he deserved every Cent of it. It is the right thing to do. Thanks for that Article Mr. Hood.

Ekpre-Olamu at Oregon benefited, too. He was a 1st round talent and tore his ACL in his next to last college game...the blowout of FSU in '14. It paid him 7 figures as he dropped to the 6th round I believe. Not sure he's even playing anymore.
It only takes one philanthropic athlete to cover a LOT of premiums..past, present, and future. It's a great investment.

are still advising the players that they can go get additional policies on their own/through the NCAA and not dependent on a 1-5mil policy from the school. There are also 2 diff types of policies- disability where you aren't able to play again, and another type that protects you against loss in draft value. Ferrell and Wilkins should be insured closer to $10 mil for the upcoming year so they should still get their own policy.

Not projected to be drafted and only 1st round in NBA is guaranteed anyway. KJ might have been the last player we've had that possibly could have even warranted this.

I know even with the bad year he had last year he checked and decided to come back. I was shocked it even went there, based on last year's performance.
