If the ACC stayed intact - could Clemson continue to compete

Aug 5, 2023, 1:46 PM

with the other non-ACC big schools, even while working with much less TV income each year?

Would we even get a chance to play non-ACC big schools after these bigger conferences do their schedules - to occasionally prove ourselves?

I say: Yes, but then No.

our brand would slowly die... that's just reality

FSU is in the same boat... staying in the ACC is death by a thousand cuts. The decision is between saving our brand now by writing a check, or waiting and having a much, much less valuable brand.

I think FSU will write a check. Will we?

And the longer we wait, the deeper

The whole to climb out of. Then again, if we write a check, will we have a place to go.

By writing the check - we'd be behind financially for years

But since I think we can compete with less money, that might be the way to go...

Difficult. Dabo says we've always been able to make it work, but he knows better than anyone that with pay for play coming, it would be a whole different story.

We would amount to a group of five based on the money difference, prestige difference and recruiting. They may still allow one ACC entry onto the playoff, but it would be just a formality. Like small conference team getting to basketball tournament. All of that over the years would reduce attendance and passion.

Honestly, I never thought Dabo would leave Clemson for Bama if offered, but that would be a whole different decision also if Clemson is not on a level playing field.

Lugenbill said the other day. He doesn't know why people are criticizing schools trying to jump conference. They are fighting for thier future. If president isn't doing all he cam, he should be ashamed

We could have before pay to play. Not so sure now.

Just a matter of time.

Could Clemson compete for the next year or two? Yes.
Could Clemson compete for the next 10 years? No. The financial deficit would have a cumulative effect and make it impossible.
