In many industries, the independent contractors who work in certain fields, "pay to operate within a building or business structure"! (I"m not crazy and can't see it happening) but, some version of this "should happen"!
The school invests a bunch of money into a kid. Education, training, meals, etc. If player X gets to just pick up after maybe "making a name for himself"(Jamie Newman comes to mind who left Wake and went to Georgia) under that school's name for "greener $$$$$$$$" pastures some of what that school poured into that player should be refunded. No. I know someone is thinking what if a player comes to a school and never becomes a starter? In that case, no money is refunded. It didn't work and that player didn't beat out other players, but the 4 to 5-year investment the school made hopefully was fulfilled by that player providing quality depth. Being a team leader in other ways. It's one school's boosters getting "*^*^* and the other smelling like money-colored flowers! Do they make scholarships 4 years; with a 3rd-year option to leave if the player is draftable? Currently, scholarships are renewed annually. Something! Nothing I have said may make it. But, something needs to be done and even the blue-blood booster schools should be nervous! They can still only have 85 scholarship players. And, there are more than just a handful of schools that can generate the money! If it gets as bad as everyone prognosticates it will be - get ready for a NIL conference! P5 was supposedly schools that had an advantage over G5 schools. Both P5 and G5 supposedly have an advantage over FBS. FBS supposedly has an advantage over Division III and so on. To me: "how would it be different"? If they are able to pull players you can't base on what their boosters can do - then - is it different from the current make it level for the name of competition concept?
