Kelly Bryant, #1 QB in Spring...

Dec 6, 2016, 10:08 AM

So Dabo has already given the keys to Kelly in the spring. Things change, I know, and there will be a TON of competition for that job.

Just making some small talk on a rainy Tuesday...
Kelly can run with the best of them from the small sample size we've seen, almost reminds me of Woody's legs. Any chance he can develop to a Lamar type? That diamond in the rough.

I compare to Lamar because we all know throwing is not his strong suit. I'm sure there might be some better current guys to compare him too.

Competition is going to be fierce in the spring with the influx of Brice & Johnson. Both of those guys are going to be nipping at the heels of the veterans for sure.

Beyond perfecting his arm, i still think Kelly is deficient in check-downs. Being able to read defenses and anticipate is a gift. It can be worked on but for the most part, it's an innate ability that one either has or doesn't have. Running the read option style offense requires a QB to do both things in tenths of a second. Deshaun had it as a sophomore in high school but some guys never get it.

Good point...

Dec 6, 2016, 10:20 AM

Knowing and recognizing coverage's and check downs is huge.

Cooper is there as well. He redshirted this year so it has given him some extra time to bulk up and work on his mechanics. I think we well be OK come next season at the QB spot. The defense will be improved as well. As Dabo said these are the good ole days. Go Tigers.

Cooper is the guy I would love to know more about! I'm (unpleasantly) surprised at the lack of highlight videos on YouTube of this kid. The other day I was looking far & wide to no avail. Where's all the footage of Z. Cooper? I know he's been critical for certain scout team situations and Dabo speaks the world of him but he's the best kept secret.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well he was injured in HS for a bit. Here is one though.

^^^^^^ That's what concerns me. ^^^^^^^^ haven't seen it and would think he'd go in b4 nick this year if he had it. Just hope Dabo makes the tough call if it comes to it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg2016_pickem_champ.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He just wants somebody to beat him out or to

Dec 6, 2016, 10:24 AM

give Kelly his chance to prove himself. Why wouldn't Kelly be first string in the Spring? It's all about competition. Kelly being the starter in the Spring was always a given.

Re: Kelly Bryant, #1 QB in Spring...

Dec 6, 2016, 10:37 AM

Roy Philpot thinks it will be ZC or HJ coming out of the spring ahead of KB. The O will more than likely take a step back next year because of the new QB but the D should be better.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We lose so much on O too. It's not just QB of course..

Dec 6, 2016, 11:02 AM

D Watson
Guillermo
Scott Legget
Mike Williams
Wayne Gallman

Am I missing anyone? The O should be wayyy worse.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was.... Artavis Scott.

The best group in Clemson history.

Who is Scott Legget? Are you saying we should have thrown

to him more?

He misspelled Jordan??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I put Scottn ext to Legget. I meant Artavis and didn't hit.

Dec 6, 2016, 11:28 AM

enter. Scott was part of that group. We all know it is Jordan Leggett and Artavis Scott. Funny though.:)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He is an Artavis Scott and J Leggett hybrid. *****

DW is going to be missed for sure but Legget in the redzone and just having M Williams on the field is going to hurt.
We have players to step in but those 3 are going to be hard to replace

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Artavis Scott will be huge as well. Gallman's ball security

Dec 6, 2016, 11:17 AM

will be missed as well. Who knows how the new QB and center will do together as well with Guillermo gone. We lose an outrageous amount.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Artavis Scott will be huge as well. Gallman's ball security

Dec 6, 2016, 11:21 AM

It's going to be interesting to see if the O can maintain next season, that's for sure.
I believe by the end of the season Johnson will be our QB.
He has put up great numbers in HS on a bad team and will be a star with the talent at CLEMSON.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I m calling it is Cooper for a couple of years.

Dec 6, 2016, 11:24 AM

It will be great to see though. One thing that is for sure, we will have the talent.

But now we reload! We'll be fine. CFP next? Prolly not, the next year, watch out. Let's talk about this in Jan

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's what I am thinking as well.

Dec 6, 2016, 11:26 AM

Next year we just figure out what we have. let them mature mentally and physically. The following year we are back in the CFP.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If Kelly Bryant is our starter for Auburn

Dec 6, 2016, 10:45 AM

We will lose at least 4 games next year. Has had 2 years to develop and could not even move up to second string. Needs to change positions to take advantage of his athleticism.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

From what I have heard, Cooper will be the Qb.

Dec 6, 2016, 11:17 AM

Supposedly he is the real deal and Bryant is getting the nod in the spring because he is the vet, but ZC is supposedly better. Just what I have been told FWIW.

Absolutely not but if we start having trouble moving the ball I would hope Dabo gives them all a shot.
If KB doesn't win the job I think we see some running packages for him tho

Dec 6, 2016, 11:36 AM [ in reply to Re: Kelly Bryant, #1 QB in Spring... ]

I believe it was last week

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jacskon actually has a pretty big arm

Dec 6, 2016, 11:34 AM

I'm not sure Bryant has that kind of arm talent, although I think he can be as good a runner as Jackson. At any rate, if he's the QB, I really hope our offense looks a lot like Louisville's did this year.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

KB will have to learn to be a passer first

Dec 6, 2016, 12:12 PM

not sure if he will, or can

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Kelly Bryant, #1 QB in Spring...

Dec 6, 2016, 1:38 PM

I'm inclined to think that Clemson's streak of 10 win seasons may come to an end next year. But I remember feeling uncertain about life after Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins. What happened?
The staff had Mike Williams waiting in the wings, brought in Scott, Watson, and Gallman. They relied on the defense which was stacked with returning starters and NFL talent.

Next year the Tigers will have a similarly great defense. They already have Deon Cain, Ray Ray McCloud and Hunter Renfrow on the roster with significant experience. They have KB or Cooper on campus already with two QBs coming that are just as highly rated as DW was. At RB there's several solid options. And more offensive line talent here than there's been at any other point in my lifetime.

We will be fine. Go Tigers!
