Bad Luck Will Change

1

Sep 25, 2023, 9:53 AM

It's obvious we have run into a ton of bad luck in our two losses. That will change.

Is our 1-4 mark in our last 5 games against power 5 teams

Sep 25, 2023, 9:56 AM

Interesting that you went to last season. So you agree this season bad luck has been the major cause of our two losses.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, I don't think we are 2-2 due to bad luck.

1

Sep 25, 2023, 10:36 AM

We have lost those two games by an average of 14 points.

In each of those losses, we had costly turnovers. None of them were due to bad luck, but to poor execution.

We also had some really poor play calls and/or clock management at key parts of games this year.

That's why we lost, not "bad luck."

Kill yourself.

Bad luck, BS. We could and should have won those games.

Sep 25, 2023, 9:59 AM

No bad luck involved. I suppose you think our losing to MoreHead St at home in basketball was bad luck too.

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Speculation. Wishful thinking.

We need to play well enough to overcome bad luck. So far this year....no.

You make your own luck. Good or bad. Yeah, schit happens, but it happens less often when you are better prepared to prevent it from happening.

It's not bad luck, it's bad coaching

bad decision after bad decision

and mistakes have to be fixed through coaching

Weve also had a lot of good luck during our run as well

2

Sep 25, 2023, 10:15 AM

So if you believe in random “luck”, I’d say we are regressing back to the mean.

However, I subscribe to the whole luck equals when preparation meets opportunity belief. And in that case sometimes we haven’t quite been prepared well enough for whatever reason.

We definitely had a lot of luck during the championship runs

1

Sep 25, 2023, 10:38 AM

The NC State missed field goal, the Louisville player inexplicably going out of bounds on the last play in the Jackson/Watson game and many more.

Now it has flipped and all these luck type plus are going against us

Exactly! We have had our share of good luck in past seasons, but this year it has been bad. Luck never stays one sided. Combinations and permutations.

An ESPN writer wrote about this very thing. Winning championships takes skill, preparation, and game plan, but it also takes some amount of luck. UGA doesn’t have an opportunity to play in the championship last year if OSU kicker doesn’t miss his first FG of the season—that’s luck/unlucky depending on who you root for. Heck, UGA might not have even won it in 2021 if Bama doesn’t lose Metchie in the 4Q—that’s luck. We survived off good luck the last two seasons when teams made critical mistakes late in games (BC center over snapping the QB when they had the ball on the 15 with like 2 minutes left comes to mind).

Three turnovers within the 10 yard line against Duke… bad luck. Wiggins getting hurt on the last play of regulation after shutting down Coleman all game on the deep ball and then the one time they connect on it is in OT… bad luck. Williams getting hurt and not able to play… bad luck.

What was also discussed was that before these past three seasons, we could rely on talent to win our games. Some crazy stat of 24-6 during Watson/Lawrence when losing the turnover margin, but we are now 5-8.

“Luck” comes and goes, but we also have to be prepared and put players in situations to finish games which has happened every game this season. We were in multiple positions to beat Duke, but offense couldn’t execute. We were in a position to beat FSU, but ST couldn’t execute. We have got to find ways to get back to winning games even when the bad luck strikes. But regardless of whatever most people actually think, my eyes show me that the team that took the field Saturday was the best looking it’s been since 2021. Just have to find ways to win the games.

it's not luck......it's talent & coaching.......

our "A game" doesn't necessarily beat people anymore. We can no longer play our "B or C game" and be confident we're going to win.

We played a VERY GOOD GAME vs FSU, call it our "A/A- game"..........FSU did not, yet they came into our house and still beat us. Anytime our WRs played their "A game" in 2015-2019 we obliterated teams.

We played our "C/C+ game" vs Duke's "A game"..........yet got destroyed. Our B/C games used to beat most teams..........especially the Dukes of the world.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's not just luck. Dabo has to quit with that weak crap.

Sep 25, 2023, 11:08 AM

I'm a huge Dabo supporter. I like his style of program building. I don't even criticize the portal thing as much as others. I like his values and his perspective. But this whole idea that we are all helpless to luck for a game like that. No. Coaching can make a difference on EVERY bad luck play we had.

The fumble? Sub in Shipley after Mafah's long run.

The OT screen? Make it more obvious anything other than a run is unacceptable OR tell Grisham to learn how to teach blocking.

Fumbles? Simplify playcalling if exchanges are a problem. Putatively emphasize fumbling at practice until people pass out. Take responsibility for the WHOLE game Dabo. Stop trying to act like an ancient priest and blaming big games on magical forces.
