I keep seeing people say this, but it doesn't make any sense.

Teams are favored bc they are perceiced to be better than the opponent. When the perception of the ACC is weak, then the teams the ACC team won't be favored. Conversely, if the ACC team wins, then the narrative and perception start to change.
And you folks can not care less about the ACC performance, but it matters. A Fl St team on a 2 year unbeaten streak was #3 in the playoffs last year, and i truly think they only got that bc they were defending champs.
Your pulling for the ACC doesn't change who wins and loses, but when you look on Sunday morning to see how the league did, it matters. Otherwise, beating a good looking Louisville team, on the road, carries little more weight than beating Wofford for Clemson in the perspective of the voters.. the voters that decide who is in the playoff.

If Clemson, GT, and FSU played Vandy, KY, and Tenn and won all 3 games, it would show that the ACC is stronger than Sec????
Every team in the ACC isn't the same, just as every team in the Sec isn't the same (as much as the coots wish this wasn't the case)
They were all supposed to win this weekend and they did... That doesn't prove anything one way or another.
No one made a huge deal about us, GT and FSU beating all of our Sec rivals last year, instead we still have this kind of garbage being spouted.

The reality with the ACC right now is that there are only a handful of teams that are even capable of fielding high caliber teams in any given year. FSU, Clemson, GT, maybe UL, and VT if they can get their act together again. The SEC has like 12 teams that have either gotten to that level recently, have the potential to now, or have in the not-so-distant past. Most fall into the first category.
Bama LSU Auburn (BCS title game 2013, champions 2010) UGA (10 wins last year, 12 wins 2012) Florida (11 wins 2012 and ofc the success under Meyer) Mizzou (12 wins 2013, 11 wins 2014) USC (11 wins 2011-2013) A&M (11 wins 2012) Miss St (10 wins 2014) Arkansas (11 wins in 2011)
Tennessee - down recently, but they were a national power up until a decade ago and can certainly get back to that level
Ole Miss - one of my least favorite coaches/programs in the country, but i wouldn't be totally shocked if they won 10 games this year as they are pretty loaded with talent.
All of those teams have higher ceilings than programs like UNC, NC ST, BC, UVA, Duke, and probably even Miami at this point (let's face it). The money, facilities, and fan support are just far, far ahead.

If it was top tier ACC teams or bottom level SEC (pac12)you would
Sep 6, 2015, 12:26 PM

All have a point. But it wasn't... It was bottom tier ACC for the most part.
Allbarn no.6 (top tier) vs UL (mid-pack) Ucla no.13(top tier) vs UVa (bottom) USuCk v Tarholes both bottom and pretty even game
To even start to pretend that this is a reflection of the ACC is just dumb.
If we had played Florida and won FSU played Miss St and won; and GT played SMU and won
Would you be saying the opposite? I wouldn't, I would say the same thing... The ACC should win those games and doesn't show that were better or worse than they are supposed to be.

I suppose it does make a difference to UL , UVA and UNC ....but not to Clemson . On the plus side , 3 of our oppo ents this year just had fantastic wins . Now that's all that matters at the end . You want your team's competition to look good . That whole conference thing is for ESPN to talk about , and for the SEC mouthbreathers to believe. Don't be one of those guys . It's a trap !

Do you think if the champion of the Sunbelt goes undefeated
Sep 6, 2015, 12:17 PM

that they will get into the playoffs?
The reason that the SEC stacks the top ten, and always has a chance to get in multiple teams is because how the conference plays as a whole. We started to change that perception last year, but gave the SEC their perception back this weekend.

We've had the playoffs ONE year! I don't think the line "always has a chance to get in multiple teams" is relevant. If there were 6 spots in the playoffs, I bet the Big12 would have gotten both of those last 2 spots last year.
They also have one more cupcake game than any other conference every year. Hence one extra win> hence higher than average rankings. (Not saying they don't have some good teams, just that perception is not complete reality)
ACC was at least as good as Sec last year and ACC had the national champion the year before.
The sunbelt is also irrelevant. They aren't a "power 5" conference. Apples and oranges.
You sound a lot like ESecPN.

Why is the Sunbelt not a power 5 conference? Where do you think that concept came from? You think it's random... or it's like a scientific law?
It's based on perception of team performance.
And the SEC got multiple teams in just a few years ago when it was only 2 teams. Do you not remember that?.
Do you even know what apples to oranges mean?

The sunbelt is a "group of 5" conf and not a "power 5" based off of the BCS system when we had AQ conferences. Now that we have a playoff, AQ is irrelevant. So that's why they aren't a Power 5 conference...
You were originally talking about The Playoff system, and now you're claiming to be referring to the old BCS system. I do remember when bama played lsu and that single event is probably the main reason we have a playoff system now instead of an obviously flawed BCS.
I think we are actually saying something similar though.... sec's success is more about perception than anything else.
Over the past 15 years, the ACC has not been smart about much of anything including new member selection, marketing, scheduling, and building broadcasting networks. It's sort of ironic that the so called more academic conference got out-smarted and out maneuvered by a conference with less academic prowess.
Again, not saying they don't have some good football teams, just not as good as some would have you believe.
** apples and oranges means not comparable. HTH.

NC looked like a better team but 3 turnovers cost them the game. UL played AU closer than anyone expected. UVA is the worst team in the coastal and lost on the road to a ranked team.
Nebraska got beat at home by an unranked BYU team and Wisconsin was handled in prime-time by Alabama on a neutral site.

Texas was embarrassed as was Kansas (I know Kansas isn't a powerhouse but losing to the Jackrabbits at home). Yes, there is an actual football team called the Jackrabbits, S Dak St.
Baylor didn't look like a top four team against SMU either.

The best way to get into the playoff is the path of less resistance and win your conference. A 3 loss team with a tuff schedule is not getting in over a undefeated or 1 loss team with a easier schedule. That is a fact.

eSECpn has been waging a campaign for several months now explaining that the ACC should and will be the conference left out of playoffs this year. To do this, they want to diminish every aspect of the overall conference in general and FSU and Clemson specifically. I see them doing this every day. I will be interested to hear what Cowherd says now that he is not on eSECpn. But I haven't done my homework yet to see where his new allegiances should appropriately be placed.

It doesn't matter . If Clemson wins out they are a 2 or 3 seed , period . That is due in large part because we beat teams we are supposed to(29 straight against unranked opps) , and beat the ones nobody thinks we will (LSU, OSU ,OK). If Clemson wins its games against UL , GT, ND & FSU and takes care of all the underlings then we are going to the playoffs ...no matter what some sports television talking head says ...or some Coot from a Gaston mobile home community runs his mouth about how tough the SEC is .

Basically the ACC teams that are expected to be mediocre played highly ranked teams outside of NC.
Would have been like FSU playing MSU and Clemson playing SC this year. The top dogs win these games.
The issue is how it is spun by ESPN. "SEC beats so and so team whereas if it were Clemson or FSU they would say Clemson gets by so and so but they were a middle of the road SEC team. Let's wait till they play a top SEC team."
Insert sigh with my utter disdain for ESPN. Fox needs to step up and give conferences and teams equal exposure and their show will kill ESPN college shows.
