The 'scene' will be even better as Joe has invited several children from multiple fourth grades!!

fishing in a video. I know, unheard of. Well, this guy was fishing literally in a marina, around the docks of parked boats. Marina owner came and asked him to leave and he spouted about his freedom and freedom of the waterways and public waters and all that. Cop comes out, tells him he's not breaking any law, but it would be POLITE to leave, as he's blocking marina traffic. He keeps fishing and smiles all victorious in his little social media experiment.
My larger point here is this guy, on the rest of his social media account, let's just say he's conservative. And that too is fine. BUT, when did conservatives start acting like entitled liberals? This is NOT A GOOD TREND. 30 years ago this guy fishing would have apologized, after realizing he was blocking traffic and boats in the marina, and moved elsewhere, thinking about the OTHER people his fishing activities impacted. Today, this isn't the case.
It's just sad. When conservatives start acting like liberals....when republicans start acting like democrats. The issue is irrelevant, it's the "ACTING LIKE" part that signals an overall decline.
Now I know this was likely a setup for social media consumption. But it's a larger problem as I see things. Freedom isn't free. Sometimes it means you have to go elsewhere to fish. Freedom works great in the middle of Wyoming, on a ranch. It fails miserably in Queens or Brooklyn, as in those places your actions impact others. Burn your trash in Wyoming and blow up Tannerite. Fine. Better not do that in Queens though.

Liberal cities are not dying because they're liberal. They're dying because they're cities. Cities are by necessity liberal, always have been since there have been cities, which is about as long as there have been "liberals" and "conservatives". The collectivism that makes cities succeed, also necessitates controls not necessary in rural areas where collectivism is not necessary and individualism can flourish.
Take the laws of Kootenai County, Idaho and impose them on NYC. Take NYC's laws and impose them on Kootenai County, Idaho. You'd get a revolt in BOTH PLACES.
Our political differences have always been a disguise for our demographic differences. Same as any other country really. Same throughout history too. This is why liberals SHOULD run cities, and conservatives SHOULD run rural areas. It's why we SHOULD be a republic tolerant of strict laws that promote safety and growth in cities, while promoting individualism and growth in rural areas. The power and control also should necessarily flow DOWN and not up in the US. Town councils should have the ultimate authority to impose rules and laws. Counties next. States next, and the federal government the least. We saw this in covid actually. It was the town councils and counties in many places that enacted mask mandates. It was governors who chose lockdowns. Washington, DC just threw money around, which is all they really can do at the local level.
The idea that only conservatism, or liberalism, is applicable to all, and only one or the other is acceptable is the height of ignorance IMO. When the returns on the collectivism of the urban areas declines, people move out to rural areas. When the collectivism of urban areas flourishes, people flock to them. If we recognize our demographic differences, then we would all be a lot more tolerant politically. But we don't. Anyway....
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/americas-biggest-liberal-cities-are-dying America's biggest liberal cities are dying You can hardly blame the college graduates who are making their way to Tulsa, Oklahoma, or Sioux Falls, South Dakota, among the many cities seeing an increase in working-age college graduates.

Incorrect.
Big cities die when the rules and laws are not uniform for all demographic groups, and when ‘equal for all’ laws are not enforced.
High taxes in a big city are manageable, given the many advantages of (expensive to build and maintain) big city infrastructure. When the big city isn’t safe or when businesses and personal property are being destroyed by criminals, the stores and shops leave and the productive citizens leave. All that’s left of the city is rot.
Giauliani restored NYC from David Durkin’d isht hole into a vibrant, safe, and fun city. Do it the right way and big cities can thrive.

I am curious as to your experience living in big cities.
Though, at least you got the tax part right. We don't mind paying them because we get so much for them - and big cities have metaphorical purchasing power.

have, that makes differences so hard to understand. Everyone lives a life. And everyone's perspective on politics, governemnt, law, life, even religion, are predicated on their own, individual experiences. Grow up in BFE Idaho, and you will be gung-ho conservative, and rightfully so. It's the best way to govern YOUR area where you live. Your experience, in your area, and your circumstances, governs your preference.
Same with urban areas. Grow up in Queens, and you know the value of gun control laws, smoking bans, subway rules, taxes, and other things that lack applicability in BFE Idaho. Live in the suburbs and commute to work in a city, and you know the value of road funding, and gas taxes, etc. Move to BFE Idaho, and all those things you relied on are gone, and individualism, and more freedom, make your life better there. Less in NYC. In BFE Idaho, there are few roads, nor a huge need for them, or improvements, or the taxes to make that happen. You can keep taxes low because you don't need to fund roads, bridges, garbage collection, fiber optic infrastructure, etc. But it is also easy for that Idahoan to blast NYC for their high taxes, but the guy in BFE, Idaho doesn't NEED high taxes. And it's easy for the guy in NYC to blast Idaho for their lack of laws that they don't need.
It is what it is, but at the very core, our political differences are not different today than they were when Caesar ruled Rome, or Madison and Hamilton (Federalists and Republicans) were hammering out a Constitution, or when the Civil War erupted, or the 60's, or today. Demographics are what separates us, not politics. Just look at the red and blue county election maps tossed around every 4 years. They never change. Cities are always blue, even in "red" states. Same reason Iraq never became a democracy, nor Afghanistan. We were naive, in our relative isolation in the United States, to think we could just bring our system of governance to them, with no history of it nor appreciation of it, and they would somehow embrace it? Not going to happen. You can win a war. Winning peace, and people, is MUCH more difficult.
In Idaho, conservatism is best. In Queens, it isn't. Likewise, liberalism is best in Queens, but NOT the best solution for Idaho. And if the person in Queens and the person in Idaho could both APPRECIATE THAT, things would be much better, in both places.
It is what it is, as they say.

***I do note that the MAPAs on here are more easily triggered lately. Their love for Prez Do Do Bird is hard to explain. Any Shrinks out there that could shed some light on this new phenomenon? Is it genes, dropped at birth, devil worship or just plain Dumbness?

Gosh you got this right.
The standard of behavior in this country has become ‘why do you criticize me for being an ace! What about the guys on the other side that act like aces?’
Across the political, race, age, economic, and gender demographics.
Self respect has been replaced by feeling good about being as stupid as those with whom you disdain. SMH.

In the guise of rugged individualism they have a certain "you can't make me," "keep your hands off my," "why should I have to" attitude about everything.
They're basically Francis.

I don't see what that has to do with liberals. I guess we have to criticize both sides in order to maintain an air of political independence and pretend we're above the fray.

You're kidding, right? Miura is a tireless patriot providing needed accurate information to all on T-Net, even you!
Not angry at all.......the euphoria of helping those, like you, in need 'trumps' all other efforts by Miura! The insults and attacks from the likes of you are the catalysts that spur me forward. Haven't you figured that out by now? A little slow on the draw? Pity.
Miura will forge on, undaunted by those that are lost in a sea of fascism and tyranny, looking for answers in all the wrong places!!
Joe must Go. Clearly, that's the only way to save America from the depths of He!!.
