Tournament seeding

If Duke were to get upset tonight (I know not likely), we’d end up in a three way tie (assuming we win today) with all teams having won one and loss one in the round robin. What is the next tiebreaker? Just wondering if we have any shot at a 1 seed in the tournament.

Louisville would be the 1 seed, and we’d be 2

Nope. If duke wins Louisville is 1 and we are 2

You mean if Duke loses, we would be 2 seed and Louisville would be 1 seed, with Duke at 3.

If Duke wins, seeding would be Duke 1, Louisville 2, Clemson 3.

If Duke loses and we win, why would Louisville be the #1? All three would have identical conference records, Duke beat Louisville, Louisville beat Clemson, and Clemson beat Duke in the head to head matchups.

c. If three or more teams are tied in the standings, the following procedure will be used:
1) The combined record in conference games between the tied teams involved will be compiled. Ties will be broken and seeds assigned based on the winning
percentage of the combined conference records. The higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group is
unequal (e.g., 2-0 is better than 3-1; 1-0 is the same as 2-0; 2-0 is the same as 4-0; 2-1 is the same as 4-2; 1-0 is better than 1-1; 0-1 is the same as 0-2; 0-2 is the same as 0-4).
2) If procedure (1) fails to break the tie, then each tied team’s record shall be compared to the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season
standings, continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage by a higher winning percentage.
3) If the tie is broken by (1) or (2) regarding one or more teams, but three or more teams remain tied, then procedures (1) and (2) will be re-applied among those tied teams only.
4) If two teams remain tied, procedures (a) and (b) will be followed.

d. If there is more than one tie in the standings, and when using the tie-breaking procedures there are a pair of teams tied, a team’s record against the combined tied teams (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures) is used, rather than performance against the individual tied teams.

e. If procedures (b) and/or (c) fail to establish an advantage, a coin flip to break the tie will be conducted by the Commissioner after the final regular season game before the Conference championship.

So at #2 the records would come into play since Duke beat Lou, we beat Duke and Lou beat us. Since the others didn't break the tie the records would be looked at next. Duke would still be #1 with fewer overall losses, we'd be #2 and Lou would be #3. If I'm understanding it correctly.

If Duke wins they are #1

UofL is 2, we are 3

If Duke loses they drop to 3, UofL 1 and us 2

Which shows Louisville for the top seed because the three-way tiebreaker goes to record against the next-best team in the standings, which would be UNC. With Clemson and Louisville having beaten UNC, the tiebreaker then pits them against each other for the top 2 seeds (using the Cardinals' head-to-head advantage) and Duke back to a 3-seed.

Ugh, tough pill to swallow. Looks like either way we're a 2 or 3 seed.

Appreciate it 👍 honestly with that seeding I'd rather Duke win tonight.

that shows how much that GT loss hurt. If we had just won that game we would have the tiebreaker over Duke for 1st place.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda
