If Cade had an average defense (AGAINST TEXAS)

He would still be undefeated against Ewers in head to head matchups. It’s crazy how Ewers has always been given so much hype and media love yet Cade has always been the better QB. Cade’s potential in this offense next year with all of our weapons returning is on Trevor/Deshaun levels.

100% agree. If we can get a good DC we are going to be seriously dangerous to anyone we cross paths with. Ill feel good about our chances in any matchup

Yep it’s all going to come down to defense, the offense is going to be a machine. I expect TJ Moore to completely take over in the WR room but defenses are going to be in hell trying to cover AW/Moore/Wesco/Brown/Smith/Randall/Bentancur/OPH

I understand the general sentiment and agree. But average for what distribution, the ACC, SEC, all of NCAAF?
I haven’t gone through the numbers but I would hazard a guess that clemson’s scoring defense fell close to the average of the NCAAF. Maybe not, though. And I don’t know how to adjust for SOS.
I’m hopeful that we make some staff changes that bring us a top 25 D and make special teams functional. That could be a serious CFP contender, if so. CK2 is on a steep trajectory.

They weren’t average in that Texas game, some of the worst run defense I’ve ever seen. I thought Louisville was the worse it could get then Wes said “hold my beer”

The problem is we do have an average defense. In the conference we were 9th in yards allowed and in offense, we were 4th. Nationally, we were 69th in defense and 13th in offense so the offense is on the low end of top and the defense is about as average as it gets and the offense was not good enough to make up for it.

You also have to factor in 2 of our top threats were freshmen, still learning the game. and another weapons was out the whole year (brown). Then throw in Mafah being banged up most of the year. Our offense could have easily been in the top 10 with just Mafah being healthy. The fact that we finished 13th even after all of that is still pretty dang impressive.

It would also be an enormous help if our special teams unit can improve the punt game (the kicking part).
Against opponents with high end punting units, we commonly gave up ~ 10 to 15 yards of field position every time there was a ‘dual’ of 3 & outs.
In a typical low scoring, contested game when both teams punt 5 times, Clemson ends up with a cumulative yardage deficit of ~50 to 75 yards.
Think about what that means. If Clemson’s offense generates 50 to 75 yards more of total offense than the opponent, then our punting team’s deficiencies negate our offense’s superiority.
I don’t care how much our defense and offense improves, we will lose competitive games if that disadvantage persists.

His defense was statistically average this year. Ranked in the 60-80 range in everything

Fixed the headline for ya but I don’t really care what the stats say nothing about our run defense was average this year.

I have not been impressed with Ewers this year. and against us it solidified my belief. Whichever team take him in the draft hoping he will save their franchise is going to be really upset. I hope its not the Jets, we already have enough problems.

CADE was the Shining Star in Texas for Clemson even while his RB’s were lacking.

Yet there are people in here who will tell you he isn't good. He outplayed Ewers in every facet. They will also tell you he was bad this year. But his stats were better than a Heisman finalist? Hmm.
I wasn't a fan of Cade until after the UGA game. Something finally clicked for him and he has played great. What is crazy, is the fact that he is considered a Heisman favorite for next season. If he were to win it, that would be awesome! Go Cade and Go Tigers!

Yep he looked like a completely different QB this year. Can’t overlook the fact that after the FSU he basically didn’t have a run game and the defense seemed to get worse. I think next year he takes another jump as well.

Whomever is DC in the upcoming season should be on a personal mission to return Clemson to the recognition as DLU. It starts in the trenches. It's no secret our offense has awakened from it's stupor due to a vastly improved O Line. It works both ways.
When we were competing for natty's both our offense and Defense were ranked in the top 10
That is usually a very good gauge to determine our potential for the season Jump on that and the back half can handle their load.
