If best is the standard

Then our OL will overcome Saturday night’s performance and continue to get better as we finish with an ACC championship at 12-1 with a playoff birth.
Then, we’ll see the OL vs another top 5 DL and show significant improvement. If they don’t show that type of improvement then our OL coach isn’t up to standard.
Then we will need the best OL coach available.
One bad night isn’t the end of the world.

True enough. This SEASON will tell, not just one lousy offensive performance. I think this Saturday is important for the entire team, especially the offense. They must dominate S.C. State. Another sub-par performance may spell the end for Coach Caldwell.

Well, SC State gave up over 40 points in their first game to another FCS opponent,so I don’t think this week will tell us anything. GaTech won’t be much of a test either. We will find out what improvement has been made against NC State.

Shouldn't our o-line be amazing? They go up against a great defence in practice everyday. Or maybe they have been whipped into submission by a dominant D.

Putting the cart before the horse. If Ga. Tech gives our O-line fits.....thats going to explain a whole lot.

We don't end up with a playoff birth unless some team(s) in the top 5 don't lose because no matter much we improve, as long as the top 5 continue to win, we stay at # 6

The question is, how many 1 loss teams do we get in over?

Yes, best is the standard

but that doesn't mean that the standard is always met.
Our offensive line has been subpar for years at Clemson. So has the play calling. Neither has come close to being the best if we are honest with ourselves.
We overcame these deficiencies in the past with generational talent at QB and RB, as well as incredible talent at wide receiver.
Anyone paying attention against LSU two years ago, Ohio State last year, or Georgia this year can clearly see these issues. Talent alone wins a lot of games against vastly less talented teams. But in big games where the talent level is more comparable, we see weaknesses exposed.
I don't expect answers this year, because our issues don't appear to be easily fixable. I'm confident in Dabo to do his best to fix these issues moving forward though.

I want to agree with you, but

I can't ignore the struggles our defense has had in a few games recently against elite competition.
Last year, we gave up 47 points to Notre Dame and 49 points to Ohio State.
The previous season, we gave up 42 points to LSU.
I realize that the defense wasn't entirely responsible for those point totals, but they mostly were.

It’s a Playoff “berf,” guys, not a Playoff “birf.”

Birth is defined as the beginning of a thing, specifically the event of being born.
Berth refers to an available docking location such that a ship may come into a vacancy at port.
We want a berth, and I like the simplicity and positivity of your take on things. Other top teams WILL record losses, and they won’t necessarily be “quality losses” against UGA (though I struggle to even type such a thing). We WILL be in the conversation if we take care of business and rise to our potential. Can’t control what a selection committee thinks or does, but we can durn sure control how we handle this schedule until then…
