Southwest air traffic controllers have walked out

Oct 10, 2021, 8:14 PM

Cause of vax mandates. The weather lie is a lie. It's not affecting any other airlines.

1000 southwest flights canceled

LOL. Don't confuse them, they're on a roll.

X didn't even know that airlines do not even have their own air traffic controllers.

BTW...Southwest pilots are known as "requesters" because they press so hard for early landings and turnarounds. They get paid to move butts, and get bonused on the faster they move those butts.

(I know this because I read "Nuts" one particularly bad night in Boca Raton and that was the only book on the shelf I could stomach.)

It’s not just air traffic controllers, even medical professionals have quit because of mandates.

air traffic controllers have returned to work. Do you think they may be entertaining offers to become Delta air traffic controllers? Where does United fit in all of this? Do they pay their air traffic controllers more and give better benefits? Asking for a friend.

It's got to be exhausting to operate at the level you do....

Oct 11, 2021, 10:42 AM

You post a piece by TMZ that is just speculation and actually cites the pilot union rep saying it wasn't an "official or unofficial job action by the pilots". In other words, the pilots say it wasn't them. If they did take an action over the vaccine mandate, why wouldn't they admit it?

"SWAPA is aware of operational difficulties affecting Southwest Airlines today due to a number of issues, but we can say with confidence that our pilots are not participating in any official or unofficial job actions," the union said in a statement."

You title the post that air traffic operators for an airline had a strike...when air traffic operators don't work for airlines. Is that really just a typo or an illustration of ignorance?

The TMZ piece says that Southwest blames the cancellations on weather and ATC stops and TMZ says the FAA pushed back on those claims...but no source or anything on the FAA pushback. At best it's deceiving....there were FAA stops on Friday and it left a lot of equipment and crews misplaced. That's one of the downsides to Southwest's hub/non-hub model...they sometimes don't bounce back as quickly as other airlines after delays. I believe the FAA statement said as much.

I say all this as someone who is opposed to the federal action to try to mandate the vaccine via employers. But why in the heck are you passing on wild and unfounded speculation?!?

LOL, if the union doesn't say it, it must not have happened!***

Well...what exactly is the source for it happening?....

Oct 11, 2021, 12:13 PM

it sounds completely made up.

If it was an organized sick-out, or whatever, wouldn't the union have been involved in that? What would be the motivation for denying it?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The FAA actually did push back on the blame game.

Oct 11, 2021, 12:16 PM

Saw on twitter where they posted a link to their real-time operations stats and said something along the lines of "you can fact-check performance claims about us here".

Yeah, I know....

Oct 11, 2021, 1:00 PM [ in reply to The FAA actually did push back on the blame game. ]

the pushback statement I read (and can't find quickly now) also said that the flight cancellations had more to do with misplaced equipment and crews from Friday's issues. The point was that the TMZ piece mentioned the FAA pushback statement, but didn't link it/show it. I think the FAA adding in delays a function of impact from Friday's issues and not from current ATC issues would add some context to SWAs statement, right?

But as mentioned above...where is the sourcing to blame this on vaccine mandate and pilots?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don’t know anything about that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would be surprised if the pilots were behind it.

Oct 11, 2021, 12:17 PM

They are all in a union--the ALPA--and that may not sit well with them.

Also, Most pilots have a military background. And they have been forced (yes, forced) to take a lot of vaccines that were a lot more sketchy than any of the covid vaxes.

The pilots I know all signed up for the vax earlier this year.

Maybe its just southwest pilots, because they are kinda the lower tier of carriers.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If true, they must be morons

Air traffic controllers don't work for Southwest, too.
