Former No. 1 overall MLS SuperDraft pick and forward Robbie Robinson has been invited to join the Chilean national team for World Cup qualifiers next month, according to the Miami Herald.

Robinson was in the U.S. provisional roster for the Gold Cup this summer but was not called on after struggling with injury earlier this year.

According to the Miami Herald, Robinson's mother is from Chile and he is a dual citizen. If he joined the team and played in a game, he would no longer be eligible to play for the U.S.

He has really come on lately with his club team Inter Miami with a goal scored in three of his last five games.

Chile is set to play Brazil Sept. 2, Ecuador on Sept. 5 and Colombia on Sept. 9. Chile is currently out of the World Cup qualifying spots early in the process in seventh out of 10 teams.

I'd prefer he suit up for the US, but you couldn't blame him

if he picked Chile. Everybody wants a chance to play in the World Cup. Plus, playing in the South American qualifiers would expose him to different styles of play and could open up professional opportunities there or in Europe. At least he would still be wearing red, white and blue.
