Us use the entire field, sideline to sideline and spread the defense out.
I love the 2-back formation, but if teams are going to load the box, calling an audible and sending Shipley out wide creating a 2x2, with one group stacked would force the defense to show their coverage.
Stack Brown and Shipley, have Collins on the far sideline and Brinningstool at the far hash.
In a formation like this, you force the defense to play either a LB or Safety on Brinningstool and Shipley. If the defense brings down the safeties, and sticks to a 7-man box, Brown and Collins on a double move should be open. Shipley is fast enough to come across the field Renfrow style and find an opening.
Granted the OL would need to be able to handle the rush, but Mafah is sitting there waiting to blow-up a defender.
If the backers drop into a zone, Mafah is more than capable of slipping out into a wheel.
If the defense keeps the safeties deep and moves a LB to cover Brinningstool and/or Shipley, then Mafah can find a running lane. From the stacked WR group the safety to that side has a choice to cover Brown or Ship and leaves one in a one on one situation. Brown fast enough to beat his corner and Ship to beat a LB. It is a coin flip on what the other safety might do but dragging Brinningstool over the middle and using Collins in a GO or Curl route SHOULD create the space for throwing lanes.
Even Mafah in the slot position with Brown, Collins and Stellato creates a mismatch, leaving Ship in the backfield as a runner, pass blocker or checkdown.
We used the whole field with DW4 and TL16. Yes, there were a lot of quick scoring drives, but with this team, we don't have to score quick, we just have to control the clock.
The defense has had its troubles but when you are in the field for 70% of the second half, you can't put a lot of blame on them. Stress the other teams defense and we create the situations that have been created for us.

We don't have the offensive line for anything that complex.***

times out of the 2-back set this year. He has lined up at WR, only to move back to a 1-back set for QB protection. I don't exactly remember the results of these formations, but they are in the playbook.

I like it. I think we ran a similar play Saturday that created a one on one with stellato on the boundary and briningstool over the middle. It was the play that Cole overthrew Jake. Actually could have gone to either one. But stellato was open for 6 had he picked that option. Wasn't there, but stellato seemed dejected it didn't go to him.
Only reason I can think of was mentioned that the oline couldn't handle the complication or time to develop but at some point you have to trust it. He'd have a quick out if it did breakdown. I like it.
