Incredibly Racist? or just ignorant statements?

Unfounded Controroversy.
NEW YORK (Reuters) -- British rock star Elton John, a guest judge this month on the U.S. talent hunt TV series "American Idol," said on Tuesday that he found the voting by the national viewing audience "incredibly racist".
Now I like Elton John. I've dealt with the man on several occasions and have always found him to be witty, down to Earth, and almost remorseful for his fame. But these statements are unfounded.
“RACIST’?
Not even close.
No foundation for that statement whatsoever... because they are “black”? What about the black male that wasn’t in the bottom three? Have we now been reduced to a society that can’t even choose the winners of our pop culture reality shows without being WARNED that a vote against a person of color is a vote for racism?
But wait it gets better...
"The three people I was really impressed with, and they just happened to be black, young female singers, and they all seem to be landing in the bottom three," said John, commenting on the tally in which the lowest vote-getter is eliminated.
This was the first time that two of these contestants landed in the bottom three... the other contestant... who was eventually booted, had appeared in the bottom three twice before. "They have great voices. The fact that they're constantly in the bottom three -- and I don't want to set myself up here -- but I find it incredibly racist,"
So ONCE is constantly?
Elton I expect better of you. But I'll forgive you as you are quite talented, and perhaps not a big fan of the show. And yes I agree with you... those girls shouldn't have been in the bottom three... but Jennifer (the black female booted) has been treading on thin ice for some time, and in short NO ONE LIKES HER. Black, white or transparent like some red heads on there.
But now here's a BIG problem... see I read these statements on CNN ~ http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/04/27/leisure.john.idol.reut/index.html
I read through the article once again, looking for the fact checker to point out that these three black women have not been constantly in the bottom three. But it's not there. Elton's statements are reported, and very well I might add, but his rationale is left unquestioned.
Sorry... but if 20 millions Americans are being labeled as "RACIST", I'd like to see the logic of those claims investigated just a tad more.
But what the heck do I know.

Especially since they are being reported as unchecked facts, and deal with an entertainment issue.
He's a creditworthy source to comment on singers... and has just labeled several million people racist.
You know as well as I do... this story has legs. At least to Joe Average American.

about Elton John's take on the AI results, although he has a credible platform. But I read your post more about the fact CNN just allowed that statment to go unfounded and unproven. He gave opinion that is just opinion (choice of people), but then he made a claim that isn't true ("consistantly").

and yes Sterl... I agree that these aren't the best musicians or vocal performers our nation has to offer...
But the overall fascination with fame and how it can be "won" in this day and age fascinates me.
Not to mention, I'm always impressed with Simon's ability to honestly critique these wannabees and then get boos from the audience... who then vote pretty much how he called it.
It's not a talent competition to me.. it's one big psychiatric evaluation of our society.

thumbs up or thumbs down.
I'll be interested to see if ANY of the 'Idols' especially the winners, have ANY sort of sustained career. My bet is they all have a hit album or two then vanish into the obscurity of 'American Idol Tours', LA Lounges and Branson Mississipi type locals.

But the sad thing is... and you know it is true... those American Idol contestants are set for life, as long as they are finacially conservative.
####, even William Hung who was the unproclaimed "worst" winner will make more money than you or I will probably ever see.

s them in a position to be, but people don't realize how much money DOESN'T go to entertainers. Set for life isn't what it used to be.
I agree that with fiscal responsibility they can have a nice life. I just think most of them end up blowing what they make trying to sustain a failing career they probably didn't earn in the first place.

I'm not talking about the "P DiddY" lifestyle...
and I know many performers (in the music industry especially) that get bumpkis.
My cousin used to front for a pretty popular band in G-Ville, and they refused numerous record deals.. as it would put them into the red financially.

I doubt any 'Idols' are writing or are even allowed to record their own material and if their name appears it is as a 'Co-writer' or they material is ghosted

voting that way because of race, but to imply that most of the voters are racist, just sounds like he's being flippant and stupid. Who cares what Elton thinks? He made incredible music before he started going downhill with Goodbye Yellowbrick Road in '75. Just about everything before that was incredible. He made some of the best songs ever recorded before 1975 that included Levon, Tiny Dancer, Madman Across the Water, Burn Down the Mission, Rocket Man, and Mona Lisa and Madhatters. He's made no good music in almost 30 years, forget him.

He got my vote every week.
Oh by the way... of the finalists...3 are African-American, one is a Pacific Islander, one is Hispanic, oh yes, and ONE is a white dude. That sounds real racist to me.
