Artists you wouldn't normally listen to will often surprise you with how good a live show ends up being. I've caught more than my share of those types of shows for reasons like girlfriends wanting to go, or the artist being at a festival, or sometimes an artist serving as a misplaced opener for the band you bought a ticket for. You may not go and buy their records or go back see them as a headliner but you can still enjoy that live performance.
That said, there remains one universal truth in all that...there is no such thing as a good hootie blowfish show.

Don't think I've even heard their name in years but I know they were the toast of Athens, GA for a brief moment...maybe 15 years ago? Can't say the stuff I heard made a huge impression and I never saw them live.

I looked it up. I think they were 2008 or 2009, Dexateens also opened for them

and I didn't realize how much I liked their music. It was a little punk-ish, IIRC. I don't listen to them anymore, but I liked Dexateens alot better.

And, a huge Lee Bains III fan after he left the band. I go see Lee every chance I get. One of my RH friends is good friends with Lee and got him to play a solo show at Slow Play Brewing back last November and his band Aluminum 6 opened. Freaking GREAT show. I'd be heading up to the Milestone to see Aluminum 6 Saturday night except we're hosting our supper club.

Did I ever tell you about the time we saw them at the Peel with Bloodkin

and then drank in a bar with Bloodkin afterward? Then went to Waffle House drunk as funk and the police were there, so we walked to the hotel. Woke up with waffle house cups in our room, no clue where the truck was, and one HELLUVA hangover.
IIRC, it was a great show, but it has been a WHILE.

So one of the two brothers that own the Thirsty Beaver is a huge Slobberbone fan

and flew Brent Best into Charlotte back in 2017 to do a solo show for his birthday party back in 2017. Slobberbone was an awesome band. I think they still do the occasional one-off reunion show but they're not really active as a unit anymore.

ONCE. I must say, it got the job done post-concert, if you know what I mean.
As you all know, sometimes you have to persevere through something a bit unpleasant to get a just reward at the end.

Snobby post here, but do you know if they have the lineage for taping?

Soundboards would be great, but obviously the newer shows aint gonna be Soundboards. I'll poke around and see how they sound, but some AUDs are quite crappy when you are used to hearing HiFi Recordings. That being said, old Betty Boards and the like are fantastic. And some of the AUDs get enough of the audience reaction to really make it cool. Also, you can get a chomper or two next to the mics ruining the sound.

But yeah, free download live shows are hit and miss for quality but sometimes it's still worth it because you get shows from bands that don't have a huge taping legacy.

see some Billy Strings on there and I'm not sure how quality tapers are anymore with the prevalence of Nugs.net streaming so many people's music. That subscription is one that we use ALOT but we only pay for one so wife and I end up kicking each other off of it when we use it.

Music is subjective and far be it from me to make fun of anyone's tastes because

my own are so incredibly broad, but KISS most definitely did not lack talent. They didn't lean into three-chord songs and a lot of what they wrote (at least early on) were far more complex tunes than they get credit for. Anyone who's ever tried to play their stuff on guitar will attest to that. They may not have been virtuoso players, but they most were certainly were not amateur hacks. Further, the stage show was always nothing short of amazing theatrically, and for me those shows still remain as being among the best I've ever been too. You may not be a fan, but if they had 'no talent' then they would have been exposed long before they ever became famous.
