David Hale is a #### ant. Why would the Track team go there anyway? They sound salty. After the 2016 Natty win, we drove to the stadium to welcome back the team. I saw Hunter Renfrow drive off in a Camry and Wayne Gallman and Dexter Lawrence get in a Honda Civic. That was a sight. No high dollar cars there. And you go over to the Football Center, no high dollar SUVs or cars there anytime I’ve been.

Although Clemson denies it, that allegation had to have something to do with the quick settlement with the track and cross country teams.

It would likely be more costly to go through a protracted litigation that you might lose and be exposed to paying damages in addition to the plaintiffs legal fees, than it would be to continue funding the program.

My dad told me it was settled, that if I didn't graduate I was going to work in a cotton mill. The ironic thing was when I did graduate, I worked in textiles for 41 years as a lint head!

Clemson hadn't originally made the decision to cut track and cross country sound so definitive.
They had to know that they would receive backlash, to the point that a lawsuit wouldn't be surprising.
Still, I'm not denying that the finances of settling versus fighting played into the recent reversal. Bringing the football program into this was also a big reason as well. How couldn't it be?

They even quoted one of the track athletes in the article, stating that she has noticed a disproportionate number of football players driving nice cars.
No one is saying that there is any truth to the allegations, but as a Clemson football fan I'm concerned that allegations such as these are the kind of thing opportunistic media outlets will run with.

...but 85 guys are on full scholarship on that football team. It is not inconceivable that their parents saved a couple bucks for college and celebrated their son’s success by using that money for a car since they were saving over six figures by not having to pay tuition, room and board.
Really, using something like “oh, I see guys getting full rides driving nice cars” as evidence of anything is pathetic. Just pathetic.

I have every confidence that our program does things the right way, and doesn't cheat.
I also have no reason to believe that any boosters or others who consider themselves fans/supporters would be providing perks like cars or scooters to our football players. Nor do I believe the high character guys we have on our team would be dumb enough to accept impermissible gifts.
The problem is that the football program is an easy target because it's high profile and makes a lot of money for the athletic department. So someone can see a football player driving an Escalade and assume that it must be a result of shadiness, whereas no one thinks that when it's a soccer player, golfer, etc. driving a luxury car.

How exactly did I “throw shade” at our football program?
May 18, 2021, 10:37 PM

I expressed concern that allegations that our football program is cheating could really be harmful. A national news story about this could create a lot of unnecessary drama we don’t want here.
I didn’t create this story. I simply reacted to it.
You’re being ridiculous. You frequently attack me for no reason. It makes you look pathetic.

You don’t think those comments from that track athlete got the AD’s attention?
May 18, 2021, 11:27 PM

It’s ludicrous that you think my post is an attack on our football program. I’m not attacking our football program at all!!
My point is that football is really important at Clemson, and the AD is going to be extremely intentional about protecting it at all costs.
In my opinion, the Clemson track athlete’s allegations that our football program is providing illegal benefits to players played a significant role in the decision to keep track and cross country. You’re welcome to disagree, but not with personal attacks.

I posted elsewhere that I don’t think those allegations are true. I am confident that our football program does things the right way.
As a result, I don’t want such baseless claims being made about our football program. I’m confident Clemson feels the same way.

In fact, I’ve stated elsewhere in this thread that I find it completely baseless.
However, you’re being naive if you don’t think the CUAD takes such accusations very seriously. They don’t want stuff like that gaining traction, despite it being false.
I never stated nor implied that I think there is any concern at Clemson that those allegations are true.

You’ve moved into absolute idiocy. I’ve known you were a troll but this is as stupid as it gets. You think Clemson promptly resolves pending or potential ligation to the benefit of the accuser when it knows, or even just believes, the accusations are false. Maybe after due diligence and legal advice but you believe the second they catch wind of a football allegation they roll belly up. Especially an accusation as startling as “I think football players drive nice cars.” Not, “I know XYZ auto is giving free cars to players” or “So and So is making car payments for people.” Just - “muh feels is football has too nice cars, derp.” Yeah - we should totally head that crap off in an equally suspicious manner. Why the f*ck don’t we all just demand seats in the suites or we’ll talk about the $500 handshakes we’ve been making after practices. They certainly don’t want it to gain any traction. As the Brownell era winds to a sad, slow close you are becoming completely unhinged. Yes, you were throwing shade as you do over and over again to anything and everything Clemson related other than Brad Brownell. You’re pretty #### hostile to the basketball program too. It’s only Brad that merits respect.

jack##### publicly run Clemson's name through the mud, but they implied improprieties in the football program that they cannot substantiate, presumably as a threat to Clemson's administration.
I cannot believe that jack### was on here thanking everyone for their support. What a bunch of selfish jerks. Really, I've never seen anything like it...offered the same scholarship that they are getting for the remainder of their time at Clemson but no...they are ENTITLED to run track at Clemson and they will burn it to the ground if they don't get there way.
One of two things are happening here...either they had evidence of improprieties in the football program and they have agreed to keep it quiet in exchange for maintaining the track program (highly unlikely) or they were willing to smear our beloved football program to get what they wanted, truth be ######. Either way, they are garbage and not in any way Clemson men.

I’ve heard a lot of positive things about the track team these last few months in terms of academic success and community involvement. There is no reason to think they have character issues, and one person’s opinion about the football program shouldn’t change that.

Sorry, this reminds me of a story from many years ago. Steve Spurrier was HC at Florida. In one of his many rants against FSU he included the line, "Their players drive nicer cars than ours do. That's just the way they do it up there."
The implication was obvious.
One reporter decided to check out the story. He found a black player at FSU driving a nice car. (I think the Player was Peter Boulware - not sure, but I know he was from SC.) The reporter ran a story about this guy and his nice car without checking out the facts. (Obviously no black player could afford such a nice car. FSU had to be cheating.) The fact was the dad of the player was a surgeon in Columbia.
