If there were other people on the staff who could recruit offensive linemen, Austin would still be on staff.
I'm not saying Luke won't be a great hire, I'm just responding to his stated reasons for leaving the national champions.

If you have someone that is an elite teacher and developer I feel like recruits will come on the line.
I do not believe that TA was an elite teacher and that’s why he’s not on staff anymore.

so I'd rather have an excellent Oline coach who can coach up the typical oline talent that we get at clemson.
It's not like we had "elite" Olines when we won our national titles in 2016 / 2018

teams, some of the best talent we've ever had at Clemson, and there is no reason we can't be better than we've been the last few years in recruiting offensive linemen. The reporting on Austin's dismissal pointed to the recruiting losses, especially this recruiting cycle. My guess is the guys they wanted for the next cycle aren't looking our way as much as we hoped.
We don't recruit them as well as Georgia and Alabama and others, but you have to have the talent to become a great player.

At UGA, boosters have been running that process for decades. I wonder if that just added extra overhead to the already-complicated recruiting world we have today.
I agree with another poster that development seems to be the key attribute in this coaching search. Everything else seems like it could turn on a dime outside of one’s control.

They finished 6th in the West for three straight seasons. He had a losing record overall.
But he's a really good offensive line coach, which is why he was hired at Georgia.

An excellent OL Coach, and tactician.
Always hire the best because we are one of the few programs where you can go get the best.
Hopefully he’s over his burnout and is bored at home

Dabo’s trend it seems is that when a Position coach or coordinator steps down or leaves for another job he promotes from within. If the person he promoted doesn’t work out for whatever reason & is fired then Dabo goes out & gets the best name available.
It might not be the best system but it builds continuity & has worked for the most part but will obviously cause some gripes when it doesn’t

Honestly, my biggest gripe at the time was that we didn't appear to even put together a slate of best of breed coaches to at least speak to and compare with who we were considering from within. I would just like to have seen some competition for the 2 big coordinator jobs rather than just automatically promoting from within. I think I recall the quote where Dabo said he spent about 30 seconds thinking about outside candidates.
Dabo earned the right to make the calls so this is just one fan's opinion who wanted to see us bring in the best, no matter where it came from.

Yes, you can. Everyone saw the poor choices. Now its been validated. But really...who gives a ^&%$ who was right...right? ; ) The changes show what many were saying was spot on. Nothing wrong with pointing them out in the way you, I and many others did. You keep being you. Gotta ignore the extremes from both ends.....
Personally, I'm just happy we have a HC who saw the same thing. And trust me, Dabo saw/recognized it WAY before Tyler. Dabo and Tyler are much more aligned than ppl could possibly imagine. I've been preaching about changes coming....for many months. Did we shoot ourselves in the foot--yep; did we take too long to adjust---yep. But be thankful we have a great coach who won't go down with the ship and not make the hard choices. Many coaches would sit back and continue to stay in their comfort zone. Not our guy....
Let me end with this. Dabo & Co. have the potential in this new era of NIL, to combine the best of the way things use to be, and be cutting-edge in this new era. It will be akin to a top-flight Pro who may take a bit less to go play for an organization who treats them like gold and wins Championships. Only difference is CLEM will match the pay. You aren't going to HEAR anyone admit that...just like you won't hear Dabo say he made some misjudgments (which we all do). Ppl are so confused when they say CLEM doesn't have enough $$$ --- they have no clue....
