I wish we would run a more up temp offense

Oct 26, 2022, 4:54 PM

Whenever Cade is put in the offense seems to be more up tempo but when DJ is in it slows down considerably.

The season is not about Cade and we are 8-0 so our tempo is just fine.

It would be nice if our O was better though. We have the 53rd ranked O.

No, really you were able to express a complete thought this time; although, in doing so, you misconstrued the thread starter's statements.

Wildest part is DJ plays lights out in up tempo I don’t really get it since we’ve always ran an up tempo offense. But Cade is getting the snap around 15-20 seconds on the play clock which is right where we should be

***Note*** I understand this is message board talk. For fans! You can barely offer an opinion on what "you would like to see" without someone making you out to be a want-to-be coach! I promise you; I don't want those problems. As someone who has coached before.

All that said, I wish we would go more up-tempo as well! As stated earlier, I am not a coach and am not at practice daily. Maybe they don't like our depth on the OL or something, who knows.
I do tend to agree it helps with what I think DJU's biggest problem is: "paralysis by over-analysis"!

He thinks too much and ends up holding on to it sometimes! He has played well and I like him. But, if I had to critique something, "that would be it"! After the game, you can tell it, "he's talking coverage like he was reading it from a book"! Like he was interviewing for an NFL job and trying to impress potential teams with his knowledge. Which is good and all; but sometimes you have to just go out and "make a play"!
Same with our WRs. Sometimes the ball isn't going to come straight to you for various reasons(pressure on QB, inaccurate throw, etc.) you have to go make a play and go get it. If you are out there more passive because you stuck in the mud over-thinking it: "you won't make that play"!
Up-tempo helps reduce that risk; because it causes players to "just play ball"! Ir promotes more instinct-type play.
My two pennies! No. Dabo doesn't care. No. all the other stuff. Just my two cents.

Exactly I’ve always said DJs biggest problem is mental, physically he’s off the charts but gets a bit to robotic. When you remove the time to think and he just reacts you can see how special he is. Maybe a sports therapist or some kind of mental workouts could help I really don’t know. But our offense has never looked so up tight before, the looser they play the better

We don't have any depth on the offensive line.

Oct 26, 2022, 5:06 PM

That makes it difficult to run a lot of tempo.

Good point and one I hadn't really thought of.***

Absolutely true haven’t thought of that either makes perfect sense. Another reason to be really excited about next year with the OL recruting this year we should be back to playing that wear them out Clemson offense

That is not constraining us from doing more. We do not play so quickly that our OL is somehow holding us back. Not even close.

Besides, the offence drives the speed of play and can go faster or slower as it sees fit. It's not an all or nothing thing. If you need a break you slow down.

But, that wasn't the question.***

More tight ends in the middle of the box...we may have the best TE bunch in cfb and only now and use them...Davis can wear them out...he is big, great blocker sure hands and is a load for any lb or safety one on one...and if you have to 2x him over the top you can still be dead cause he can out jump all of them...other TEs are great as well...Jake has speed with long strides..only been saying this for two years!

I've never been a coach so maybe someone can help me. Is it more tiring to run block or pass block?maybe the up tempo play calling can match the least tiring plays for the O line.
I guess the question needs to be raised which offense is more tiring for thr D line?

The offense is geared to DJ. He is slow. Streeter cannot adjust fast enough to gear a different offense on the fly. Handoffs up the middle don't take a lot of imagination or planning. Even a cave man could design it. When Cade comes in, he still runs DJ's offense. Streeter does not have an offense for Cade and cade does not practice an offense designed for him.

Tempo did get bumped up a notch in the 2nd half and felt like it energized the offense.

A lineman gets worn out being in a stance for 20-30 seconds every play.
