with the culture and religious non sense and just focus on football.
There is nothing wrong with being religious, but everybody is not into that to the level that he is.
I think it may be hurting our recruiting.

Yrs.It isn't going to change.
You hear it 20 times a week because he is asked the same questions 20 times a week.
The real key is to stop asking questions.
1 press conference per week would dramatically reduce what he is saying.

And the space between those two things is where you'll find the reasons Swinney does not separate his theology from his ethic.

Dabo is a member of NewSpring Church, and has frequently discussed his Christian faith, so yes, he is religious. NewSpring is non-denominational, but it holds core Christian beliefs and adheres to a Baptist faith tradition.
That's religion. Christianity is a religion.

What I'm distinguishing between, though, is belief, which is for lack of better definition a personal conviction or acceptance that something is true, and religion, which is an organized belief system.
Christians don't believe in Christianity. They believe in Christ. Dabo is the latter.

You think that sounds really profound, but it really isn't. "Christians don't believe in Christianity, they believe in Christ." That is total nonsense. Christianity is a religion entirely made up of Christians, and is centered around the teachings of Jesus Christ, so...I would say Christians -- and I am one -- believe in Christianity.
This sort of faux-theology is very popular in mega churches.

Swinney submits to the teachings of Jesus (what we all call "Christianity") but he believes in the person of Jesus.
And, like the belief/religion distinction, it is one that must be made.
And there's nothing profound about any of it. Simple, sure. Counterintuitive, possibly. But not profound.

Yeah, it can be a bit of a false dichotomy, depending on how it's put ...

if someone merely means to point out that the ultimate object in faith is in the Lord Christ himself, and not in the organized practice or structure of Christianity, per se, then that's a fine and true and worthwhile distinction. (and, I believe this is what A1 is getting at, if I understand him correctly)
However, rhetorically, this can be pushed too far. Sure, we are saved by Christ, not by "Christianity" as such . . . but that doesn't mean that a genuine Christ-oriented faith results in a "non-religious" person . . . or a person who is "not religious." That's a false dichotomy that assumes that a religious person is necessarily one who doesn't believe in Christ sincerely, and only practices a the religion outwardly/externally. But the external/religious practice, and the genuine article of faith, are not mutually exclusive. Some may substitute religion for true faith, but this doesn't mean the two never go together.

You are the problem! Thank God for Dabo! You think his Faith is hurting recruiting? It is what drew many many players to Clemson. He does not force His beliefs on anybody but He does get to have them! So just win games so that drunk degenerate gambling addicts and spoiled rotten do nothing fans can feel good about themselves! That's a great recruiting pitch!
but hey sometimes you get what you ask for!!!

Culture and religion are certainly not the problem. Those were central to Dabo's style and message during the best stretch in the history of Clemson football.
Coaching, talent, and modern roster management are the problem.

What he has achieved (historic) he would never have achieved without "the culture and religious nonsense".
The problem isn't that people aren't into it. The problem is it doesn't mix simply with NIL and revenue sharing. We've tried to just add the one to other but it isn't working.

It becomes a sort of bias in how he hires and recruits. It doesn't make him a better Christian to do it this way it makes him a worse football coach. It doesn't attract people to the message if people see you failing in your life's work.
