So for all the South Carolina folks here who voted McMaster

I'd like to hear your reason why. He's a pretty lackluster dude in all regards, and James Smith, despite the D by his name, is pretty moderate and a veteran to boot. But I want to hear insight from folks why they chose McMaster (if it's more than just "he's Republican").

you think James Smith is a "moderate"??

have you reviewed his voting record? There are many, many votes where he is alone in his party on the left side of the ledger. There are many votes where the Senate is nearly unanimous but James is alone with one or two others. Now, don't get me wrong, I commend him for voting his conscience against what is sure was pressure to follow the majority, but his conscience places him on the far left.

McMaster just strikes me as completely incompetent regardless of his party affiliation.

I'm not a McMaster fan, never have been. Empty suit but SC has a weak governor anyway.
I'm much more annoyed with people like Hugh Leatherman

Yes. Someone who rises to the ranks of Attorney General is completely incompetent.
These kind of statements make you look foolish. State your exact issues with him or just keep your mouth shut.

I’ll just say that “fairly moderate” as a Dem is a tough spot to hold this day in age. IMO that only means they are huge liars on the stump.

peoples' answer....similarly, SheGUAR goes by the "they're Democrat" reasoning.
Maybe i'm 'too' squarely in the middle, but that just doesn't make sense to me

Unless there are character issues or the candidate is an outlier ideologically, if you care about conservatism or liberalism, then you can usually just vote for somebody based on whether they're Republican or Democrat. There's no special virtue in being somebody who votes less coherently.

sorry... if you're looking for an answer more than "he's republican".. then i'd like to hear why so many women were voted into washington yesterday,.. and, i want to hear more than "she's a woman..or she's the first woman". but, i'll admit.. i voted straight republican cause i don't believe in murdering babies. i don't believe in open boarders.. i don't believe in "lets make this country as freaky as you want it to be".

You're against abortion, but you vote for the party that is consistently against policies that would prevent unwanted pregnancies. I'll never understand that.

way to generalize my statement.. i have no problem w/ preventing unwanted pregnancies w/ any solution that doesn't include ending a life. period. i'm all for birth control, but once life is conceived in the womb... that is no longer anyone's life but it's own.
i'm not for defunding planned parenthood altogether.. just the part that kills innocent lives.

Well that's already defunded. And you may personally be for whatever, but you vote for candidates who support policies that increase abortions. How does that jive?
I am against abortion too, that's among the reasons I vote for Democrats.

read this: http://www.ontheissues.org/Celeb/Republican_Party_Abortion.htm and, tell me how republicans are for abortion.
honestly, i'm not saying you're wrong.. but, what you're saying is really confusing me cause as far as i knew.. democrats were pro-choice (for the right to abort babies).. and, republicans were pro-life (against aborting babies).. is that not right?

voted for Smith.
He is either lying or is ignorant of one of his main topics. He is for lifting the solar cap on utilities by saying we need more solar. What he doesn't say is that you can still interconnect your residential solar. The cap referred to a special extra payment rate for that solar. That extra rate goes back into the rate base which means that all other customers are subsidizing it. You can afford $10k in panels but you want the old lady on fixed income to subsidize it? No thanks. So he's either lying or stupid.

He had a stage in his basement and sings and plays guitar

And his dog Boots loves fried chicken (well, the old Boots - RIP). He threw an wedding shower for my college roomate once. Was a very grand affair upstairs on the main floor. Very nice house. Wife's awesome. Very formal, old school southern gathering. Then later we all retired to the basement. Tie got loosened, guitar came out, and was more of a casual party.
He's a lot like me and my dad. Comfortable at a black tie charity gala, or drinking moonshine by a fire listening to Skynnyrd with a bunch of hunters from Ravenel.

James Smith has an aggressive policy for gun control. He wants to ban the AR-15 and other common semi-automatic firearms.
There is absolutely no excuse to support a candidate like this. Any candidate that openly endorses violating the Constitutional and human rights should never be allowed to even be on the ballot.
He is an utter embarrassment.

The way to make for fewer casualties lies in school design, not having a cop there.
The cop helps in some situations, but design would help in all.

kids safe at school, because armed officers in schools is only PART of a solution. If he thinks this is enough, then that bothers me more than if he had no plan, because that means he's content just trying to do the quickest and easiest thing vs trying to actually identify and address the root cause(s)
