A $50 monthly discount dropped off my DirecTV bill this past billing cycle,

so time to make the annual call yesterday. I've threatened to cancel over the years and had several conversations with the "Customer Loyalty" dept or whatever they're called--the last line of defense where you get an actual English speaker who has the power to give you all the discounts (and probably make some up if they have to) in order to keep you as a customer.
For probably the second or third year, I'm actually good with cancelling the service and switching to streaming if they can't get to where I need them to be, and they always did juuuust enough to keep me. It's nice having a bundled bill for wireless, fiber internet, and TV. This time though...no real argument from the first line of defense, and in fact, she upped my internet from 300 to 500mbps and dropped the price from $75 to $70, and I wasn't even asking about internet. Transferred to Customer Loyalty.
No real argument here, either. No effort to try and keep me. Just processed the service cancellation, info about where to drop the equipment, etc. Weird, after playing this game almost every year for the past 15 (or more). Figured they would have at least tried to steer me to DirecTV streaming, but not even that. So it's off at midnight tonight, for the first time in many years.
Roku Streambar (or whatever it's called) is showing up today. Still mulling over Hulu vs. YoutubeTV. Sports are better on YTTV. Content better on Hulu. I know several people who have switched from Hulu to YTTV in the past year and they like it better.
What direction should the last cordcutter on earth go, Lunge?

We have both Hulu (not Live, using brother's account) and YTTV. I am a fan of YTTV, multi-game split screen setup for sports is really nice. I haven't used Hulu Live in a while though, so they may have that option now too.

Last time I dumped them, I got a little old lady who was shaming me for not letting my 5 year old watch a large variety cartoons anymore. That was when my twenty year old was 5.
This time, just told me where to bring the equipment and the lady behind the counter was like, "who are you switching to?" and I told her YTTV and she shrugged and took the equipment to the back and handed me a receipt.

I think it was like $45/month back when I was an early adopter, and now it may be like $80 or $90.

And I'm not canceling anytime soon.

Just split the expense with a friend or family member less than 20 miles away.
We have hulu (via mom) but I never use it. Wife and kids use it for one or two shows rarely.
I use yttv for sports mostly. It's also good for recording shows for the kids or movies for anybuddy.

Could work well and both would be less that the Spectrum bill.

is building a small stage in the corner of your TV room and force your children to prepare and perform skits for your amusement on demand. Make the rate structure very simple for them...if they aren't entertaining, then they don't eat. You'll save on both the streaming service and the grocery bill in the long run.

huge oaks on Corps of Engr property, so no recourse. About the same time we got UpCountry fiber and signed up for Hulu. We found the Hulu buffered a lot, even at 250 mBps and switched from Hulu to YTTV.
Been fairly pleased with YTTV, but may drop that since we have the Spectrum app from Boone. Only prob is no local (GSP) channels.

with Bally sports south (or southeast, can't remember) so our Braves family can watch the games
most expensive streaming option by far, but been pretty happy with it. with any streaming, the only thing you may see different is that takes little while longer to change channels

Like them both but at the time they threw in ESPN+ and Disney for free.
That just rolled off so as soon as Clemson softball/baseball is done, I'll dump those and reevaluate before football season.

five years and don't plan to - so the actual satellite TV market will be dead as the satellites decommission. I guess there's no point in it now - if you live out in the middle of nowhere without cable/fiber internet, you can just get Starlink and stream your TV from there...
