I was sorry to hear of the passing of Terry Holland today

I grew up in Charlotte and had the pleasure of meeting Terry when he was Lefty Driesell's assistant coach at Davidson. My Mom had a high school student from WVA who played for them and we got to sit behind the team at the Southern Conference Tournament and they came over to our house for dinner. They won the tournament that year in 1968 and went on to lose by 4 points to a Charlie Scott-led UNC team in the Elite 8 of the NCAAT.
I still have an old Southern Conference Tournament Program with all of the team and coaches autographs. As many of you may remember, Terry went on to be a legendary head coach at UVA where he coached Ralph Sampson among others, and of course, Lefty became a legendary coach at Maryland.
RIP Coach Holland and thanks for all you did for college basketball and the ACC...

Holland had one of the great lines of all time. he said he got a new dog and named it ' dean smith'. when asked why, he said " because she's a ##### and whines all the time."

There was a long period of ACC history when Clemson & UVA

… Clemson & UVA were the only charter members of the conference never to win the ACC tournament.
Then Terry Holland came along and with a kid named Wally Walker, the Cavs unexpectedly broke out and left our Clemson Tigers all alone with that dubious honor.
That was almost 50 years ago!
Virginia has since become a well respected basketball program with multiple conference titles and great success in the NCAA tournament.
If we don’t end this embarrassment this season, when will we ever?
Go Tigers! Win the ACC. Just do it … NOW!

I was fortunate to know Coach Holland in the 80's as a summer counselor at his basketball camps for 6-years. I had zero connection to UVa, but he went out of his way to get to know me and everyone working the camp, treating us all like gold. He was a great man.
I can only imagine the hurt of those who were part of his Davidson and UVa teams feel today. I'm not sure all NCAA Basketball coaches go to Heaven, but he's a 5-star shoe-in! Pray for the Holland family.

Yes indeed, he and Wayne Huckel were the two best players on those teams.
