Of all the medical ads on TV , how many of you self-diagnosis?

And how does your MD receive your ad-inspired request for the meds they are pushing. The newest one I saw was about DuPuytren's Contractures. I had never heard those words but actually asked my doctor a couple of months ago about a knot in the palm of my hand - he didn't name the condition but warned me that it might progress the way this new ad describes. Has anyone had any experience with this problem and if so, which treatment did you get? ( No jokes about changes in one's palms).

Not certain about how successful but have been on TNet long enough to know what was coming (And that opens the door once again with pun intended)

He ended up having surgery. They had to go through the back of his hand. He said it was painful as ####. I would have something done sooner than later.

Yall ever feel like they just make up diseases to invent new medicines to sell? I saw one the other day and was like no way is that a real thing.

Of course they do! Not only that, they list enough symptoms so that

… one of them could apply to half the population. If they can hook a hypochondriac or even someone with a legitimate concern and have them run to their doctor, the pharmaceutical companies avoid paying sales reps and the doctors are happy to collect their prescription referral fees.
My wife was in the medical field and she shakes her head at some of the wrong terminology on some of those ads… sometimes they have the cause and effect backwards.
Do what you want, but my opinion when it comes to medication, less is more. Diet and exercise work wonders for your health. After the last few years, why would anyone trust big pharma?!

I don't put a lot of interest in self diagnosing; now self dosing is another matter .

Based on all the side effects of these drugs being advertised, surgery with a buck knife and bottle of scotch would have a better result.

I'm a high risk diabetic. and before my Dr put me on Ozempic, my A1C hung around 8, 9, and a couple times it was 10. Since I've been on the Ozempic, my A1C has hung around 5 with no checks being higher than 6. It works, and I have lost close to 20 pounds the 6 months I've been on the Ozempic...

You may could have gotten similar results just changing your diet!

I went on a low carb diet, cutting out all the sugar, bread and other starchy carbs, and in four months, dropped my A1c from 6.7 to 5.6 and lost 35 pounds!
And I don't even feel like I'm on a diet, because I eat lots of baby back ribs, chicken wings, bacon and hamburger steak. The key is cutting out the highly processed carbs!
There is definitely a lot of concern by many in the medical field about the possible side effects of Ozempic!

I had surgery several years ago on one hand and the other is on the way but since I never got full motion and feeling back, I don't think I am doing surgery. I blame part of my problems with my golf game on my hand but I am afraid it is really age.

No need for me. My docs (plural) find enough bad stuff without my help such as high BP, high cholesterol, prostate cancer, 3 melanomas, hips & knees replaced, pulmonary hypertension, cataracts, kidney stones, fatty liver, etc. But all in all in pretty good shape for an old dude.

I am a 1967 rat too. I lived in 10, the tin cans and new f. Got married after my sophomore year. I too have had replacements. I blame it on climbing all of those stairs at school and many years of in and out of airplanes and cars.

This is an interesting post! First, I have had the surgery to release that contracture and it was successful. Second, the only issue that ever was inspired by a TV ad was high cholesterol. I looked just like the person in the ad and knew mine was elevated so I asked about it. My doctor said I didn’t need medicine. Had to see a specialist for something else and he put me on it pronto. Cholesterol has been under control ever since.

We, the viewers, can’t rush out and buy it, and the doctors are already getting endlessly scmoozed by the pharmaceutical reps. Do the drug companies really think that we have much input into what is prescribed for us? For me, it’s always been up to the doctors and insurance company.
