What will it take to silence the Portal complaints?

For the people who criticize Dabo's portal philosophy, what record will it take to quell your concerns?
Is 12-2 with an ACCCG Championship & a first game play off loss enough?
13-2 and a loss in the round of 4?
Or do you simply not care and just want to do it because everyone else is / it's championship or bust?

"Gurus" praise Dabo's approach and now say he is doing it the right way. I imagine the failure of some of the nothing-but-portal programs is helping change the perception.
Dabo has said that he's not against the portal but it will have to be a special circumstance. He's also not getting in a bidding war for a transfer or recruit. It's probably why we have lost a couple through the years.

Dabo will have to win the Natty to quell the port-o-letters. All the others, even those who used the portal will have their fans complain. Only the National champ can claim they were successful using it, or in Dabo's case, not using it. If Clemson doesn't win the Natty it will be because we didn't use the portal...other than the National Champs, all the others will say they need to use the portal more. Maybe Army or Navy wins the Natty...they don't use the portal either!

The portal for myself is the least of my worries. The relegation to a 2nd tier with no realistic path to another national championship in the very near future concerns me.
If you can recruit well and coach guys up and they stay in the program you will be fine. If legitimate starters start jumping ship to find bigger paydays then the portal will have to be used regardless of one’s philosophy. I do not want it to go down that road but may be left with no choice.

I also agree with you and wonder how and if our philosophy changes as we increase to 105 scholarships. Are we able to find quality HS recruits to fill those extra scholarships or do we simply hold them out for future walk ons? I'd like to see a mixture of youth and experience for those extra schollys but I definitely want us to get the players we can doing it the Dabo way.

I normally do not agree with many of your posts but I can agree 100% on this one!

Wonder what it will take for the people who complain about people who complain about our non-portal use to stop complaining?

Won’t never happen! Few constant narratives going on, on this board of late. I believe we all know who believes or does not believe on both sides of these arguments. Guessing there will never be anything that we can always agree on.

I actually enjoy the difference of opinions and the discussions. I just get a little tired of those who seem to insist that everyone see it their way, instead of just allowing everyone to see it how they want. Some turn it into a win-lose proposition if they can't change someone's mind, and then start turning it personal.
To each his own I guess. People will be people...

That was a complaint to you?
All I did was ask a question about what it would take to stifle peoples concerns about Dabo & his portal philosophy.

So, I took that to mean "what will it take to silence the portal complainers." Had you phrased it like you just did in your second paragraph, the perception would have been much different.

with or without the portal.
Clemson will (on average) be better than most of the ACC teams/programs they compete against.......The way Dabo's handling of the portal/NIL will ultimately determine where we land amongst "the ELITE" moving forward.
We lost by 31 points to the only sorta "elite" team on our schedule so far.
We've manhandled FOUR of the bottom 6 in the ACC. All four currently have a losing record overall.........not surprising
We manhandled App State........overall losing record and currently tied for LAST place in the SunBelt EAST division.
we are improved this year b/c Dabo started playing our best WRs........(who didn't play vs UGA).
Let's beat some ELITE teams first.

We may not be playing "elite" teams the next 4 games, but we are playing better teams than we have been. I will be anxious to see where we are at the end of that stretch.

Sure but even during that time frame we did things against similar opponents that weren't done by Trevor or Deshaun.
I said to some friends of mine that losing a close one to UGA would be the worst thing to happen to us. Getting blown out showed the coaching staff that things have to change & we have continued to improve each weak while many teams ranked above has have just been exposed.
Competition aside, I'll take Dabo in a one game season against just about any team in the country.

Open question...if Dabo gets into he playoffs this or next year and then decides to use the port-o-let and brings in say 6-8 "porters" and doesn't sniff the playoffs, what will be the discussion...more $$$ to get better "porters"? Just asking.
BTW...I'm talking about "luggage porters," you know, the one who look foe the big the $$$ bags, although a couple of "porter beers" may be in the offering during the game tomorrow!

It really is tough to come up with any team that’s been successful, much less won a National Championship, that has sporadically used the portal to fill holes and or build depth.
Often times , when making an argument about a teams roster build, I find it best to do so mid season after losing big to the one good opponent while winning big against mostly bad football teams. Your stance has definitely been strengthened and I find it appropriate to approve Danny Pearmans Dec-June vacation request

Go undefeated without a transfer contributing but as soon as there is a loss against a team with at least one contributing transfer, it will start all over again.
