I truly hope CBB (and others) use UNC’s arrogance against them in recruiting.

Mama ain’ raise no quitter - sitting in a kid’s living room and plainly stating UNC won’t be humble enough to play your kid when they meet adversity won’t sit well with families, methinks. Or, mehopes.

Clemson-come play for us and we'll definitely let your kids play in the NIT if we qualify!
Holes-come to UNC where we play for National Championships and anything else than being in that tournament is not up to our standards. Oh, and, your kid will be prepared to play in the NBA if his talent shows he's worthy. We have a long track record in all of this

Nobody can argue with the track record, that’s for sure.

And it’s true that Clemson is simply not going to be entertained in the living rooms of some of these five star high school kids at this point.
BUT, for those players who need to operate within a team context to flourish, which is most of them, I hope the hubris of that program shines through and erodes trust in their stewardship pledges to athletes.
Pride comes before a fall.

but skipping the NIT is a nothing burger. It's just evidence of what we all know to be reality, that the NIT means extremely little for a major conference school, especially one with the tradition of UNC. It means something to schools like Morehead St however, as it affords the opportunity to knock off an ACC school. All the talk of extra practice and such things, how many practices do we get before Wednesday?
For us, actually winning the NIT may mean something, as we have zero championships of any sort in our history. But playing in it, even reaching Vegas, brings nothing to the table for the actual furthering of the program.

UNC grad here. My first reaction was ticked off and embarrassed when we declined the NIT. It mostly still is. But I’m hearing the team has injuries to 3 bigs one of which we already knew in Bacot. The staff wanted to move ahead with recruiting and positioning themselves with potential portal players as well. I’m other words , they felt playing in the NIT interfered with forward progress. I’m not saying I buy all of that and I’m still not happy. But I guess they sort of make a case. Maybe? Ugh!!

Didn’t get it done, so pouting and taking their ball home.
3 folks out ? Use the time to develop younger players that will be around next year. In game situations that “matter”.

Clemson does not recruit the same guys as UNC as they have a much bigger budget.
