The state of this program

I’ll put this as simply as possible.
As long as Dabo is our head coach, any season can result in a national championship. Whether you think there is some sort of “decline” happening, this program will not be one that cannot compete with the top teams in the country. That’s because of Dabo.
There’s some playcalling issues. But ###* it y’all that’s it. This team played at a level today that was just below perfect.
The offense is better than it has been since 2019 in my opinion. It is very good. Not elite yet, because of the overall mold of it hasn’t even had a full season.
I swear we have a top-10 team. Just watching our players today, there was so much electricity and athleticism. More than I’ve seen from both the offense and the defense in forever.

2011, we went 8-0 and ended badly. But won ACC Champ. Then looked awful against WV.
Fast forward to 2013. Ranked top-10 most of year. Looked like potential huge year.
2014. Lost Tajh Boyd. Regressed. Had multiple losses. But found Deshaun Watson. Rest is history.
2021 until end of 2022: Loss of all-time QB. Roster turnover. Bad OC. All that. This was a stunt in Dabo’s history.
There’s been “regression” from great to okay in 2013 to 2014. But there was building back up.
It’s been tougher than today. I’ll tell you that. You can see the progression back to where we want to be. Against a top-5 team without a doubt. That is not a game that many would’ve won in Death Valley.
And we have found the QB that can take us back up.
I see a playoff appearance at least in 2024 with the 12-team playoff.

That’s my feelings too after seeing the performance against FSU. We can fix it. Best we’ve looked in a couple years.

excited about some of our young talent on O. The O is improving. My concern is losing almost the entire D. Im not sold on Wes being able to turn the roster over like BV did and get results. I just dont see an upward trend for the program.

I think Dabo was giving him one more year then Streeter to see if he progressed into something more since there was some light last year but it’s not there. I think Dabo sees it and will make a change.

I'm not sold on Wes either, but we only gave up 17 points in regulation to what is supposed to be a high powered offense. That is a great performance. Will he be able to do it when we lose 6 of our starting front 7? I'm not sure even Venables could do that. The offense will need to carry us next year.

LB will have some drop off. DL will be better next year. Unless some hit the portal Backend wil be the same or slightly better.
Not sure Wes is the answer. He seems have the bend but don’t break mentality. That tarely works in college because it only takes one busted coverage to allow a td from your 20. NFL players do their JOBS must of the time.

The DL will be better? We lose every one of the starters. Parker has been fantastic, Woods is a beast, and we legitimately go 3 deep on the line, but that is an awful lot to lose and be better.

You might be right about defense. But, all in all - I think the defense has less flaws. Our prior coach defense had some serious flaws - Joe burrow and passing teams torched us. It was get to the QB at all costs. The defense is much more well rounded now.

some talent and looks really good at times. But they've got to quit losing before you can proclaim they're a to tier team. Don't care if it's missed FG's, turnovers or what, bottom line is they've lost to the only two decent teams they've played. Potential? Sure but potential is nothing until they play to that level for 4 qtrs and finish the job. Love Dabo but her talks about culture and right now the culture on this team seems to be too short themselves in the foot at times.

You must have not actually seen how they played.
If you don’t feel better than you have the last 2 years, then you are not fully aware of how tough it is to be as good as we have been in the past.
This offense by next season will be top-5. Along with that defense, we’re on the way back up.
And the “build back up” doesn’t take long with Dabo. Other programs have to take a while to get there, but this can be achieved by the time Cade is gone.

I'm not saying they're not improved but the facts are they are still finding some way to lose. You can't say how good we are and be 0-2 against the only two decent opponents we've played. I think Cade is going to be great as is Brown but at some point you have to make the plays to win instead of the mistakes to lose. Until that time this is not a top tier team.

I just don’t follow.
With DJ and Streeter, we were not even good enough to be in the SITUATION to make a critical play. Unless we were playing inferior opponents. If we played this FSU team with DJ, we would’ve had zero shot.
We are top tier because we have the ability to play like that against anybody.
I’m using a trajectory view. I’m saying by the time Cade is done, this offense will have been set as elite again. Question is how long will Riley be around.
Which I think in the case of G Riley moving out, Chad Morris may take back over fully. Feel like that’s a reason he was hired on. And also his ties to Clemson, and being within the program it gives Dabo all the reason he needs to hire him. Lol.

Agree with you completely about Riley. Hitting him was kind of

a double edged sword. The better we are, the quicker he's going to move up but that's just the way it works I guess. We were lucky to have held on to BV as long as we did. I agree with you about the possible trajectory of Cade and the offense compared to DJ and Streeter. Just saying that for me, top tier means you find a way to get it done and finish, not just compete. This team doesn't have that yet. They may very well be there by the end of the year and I think there is a strong possibility we run the table from here on out but they have to find a way to stop the critical mistakes.

Im with you. The offense is a dynamic wr away from being extremely potent. Wesco and Moore will do just fine paired with Williams and Brown. DL might be a concern if they cant find someone to pair with Parker next year.
As for this year im looking for Cade to take a huge leap forward, after this game Riley and Dabo should have all the confidence in the world in him, open it up and let the kid ball. I do think if Goodwin has any more major meltdown drives that play critical roles in a loss that hes gone.

To some extent I agree. But even in Brent’s best years, there were some games where we broke down and it looked bad. It’s part of the game.
Overall, the secondary has been better than I’ve seen in a long time as well.
The D-Line was flying to the QB. They were finishing tackles. Peter Woods will pair with TJ Parker. Vic Burley will be introduced. I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about there.
It is all about perfecting everything at this point. We’ve got the foundation, we just need maybe a few extra players like you said and some more experience.
And a KICKER!!

3 and 4 loss seasons just aren't going to cut it. And this will the the 3rd season in a row with at least 3 losses most likely. And what makes it worse is we were the better team in both our losses. Dabo isn't above criticism nor is he above firing. The man is getting paid 10+ million to compete nationally. It's up to him to turn it around.

We have to get better yardage on 1st down. Running the ball on 1st I only remember twice that we got 3 or more yds and one of those was the first Offensive play of the game. The majority were 1 or none. Also, we need to throw the ball to or beyond the sticks on 3rd down.
We improved in areas today, throws down field and across the middle, broke some runs, Defense against the run and coverage on all but 1 play. I'm not sure who could have defended the OT catch.

we have got to solve this kicking issue immediately. This will not be our only loss this season if we continue to struggle with field goals.

This isn't anything close to a top 10 team. Klubnik doesn't have a good feel for the game, and has poor decision making prowess. Dabo is his own worst enemy. There's several more losses to come. I hope they can hold on to the recruiting class.
