To all of my tiger golfers out there- Have some buddies flying in from Texas and Georgia in a few weeks for a golf outing and they have tasked me with setting it up. 2 of us are Clemson grads so Walker course is one of our top picks (if we can get a tee time) If you could chose 2 PUBLIC courses in upsate SC, which would you choose. None of us are scratch golfers. All shoot between 90-110. I just want it to be something memorable for the guys and we all enjoy it. Only course we have set in stone is Green Valley. We are open to anything in Upstate SC/NC more of the Spartanburg/Greenville Area

If you are feeling brave, do the FINN Bikes. LOL
Here are a few I like....but also depends on where you are staying.
Walker is a must.
Some of these can be a haul, if not careful.
1. Greer Country Club - do not sleep on this one....they are really turning it around. Greens are amazing, and they also have a nice restaurant. 2. Furman is a great one....near downtown too. 3. Woodfinn Ridge - haven't played in a bit, but def a fun track....towards Inman. 4. Verdae is tough, but in the middle....in mint shape right now. 5. Boscobel. Old soul track, but great greens.

Thanks! ive played at all of those except Boscobel and Furman. Greer CC I was shocked at how nice is was for the price I paid. I got a deal for like $22 on golf now. If we can get a Tee time at Clemson do you think we should skip on Furman or are they courses totally different? I ask that with with both of them being D1 college courses.

That's just my opinion.
Always in great shape, new pro shop, cart girls, and the back 9 holes on the lake.....
That is an epic course to show off to the friends....
But hey, I'm super biased on that one.

Furman and the Walker course are very different. The Walker course is picturesque along Lake Hartwell. Furman is a great course but not nearly as scenic. You can probably play Furman for about half what they charge at the Walker course if that is a factor.
Southern Oaks between Powdersville and Easley is a great local course. Greens are undulating and very challenging. The course is in great shape and has a lot of character. I play it at least once a week. It is very reasonably priced.

Let me know when you are in the area. It is a fun course. The greens can be pretty frustrating to read. It took me over a year to learn some of the subtleties. Some of them you just have to know because it sure doesn't roll the way they look. I’ve been playing out the ere for 2 years and still get fooled by some of them.

I agree Rhett… I’ve played there about 5 times, and you have to look those putts over from all angles (and I still get some reads wrong). But I love the golf course.

The brand maker will post on their website where they will be. (For Demo day, which they can fit you too).
Most people are going to more local shops like Bypass Golf or Clemmons golf , or the chains like Golf Galaxy, Club Champion, or PGA superstore.

Well, I was going to suggest green valley. What about The Reserves? Can't Clemson alum play there? I just know our ladies team seem to enjoy it. Personally, I like Furmans golf course but that's been years ago.

If you have a membership at another club, sometimes the club pros can help....
I just named the public ones I thought were worth trying.
I haven't tried the alumni route....may try that and see....thanks for the heads up!

If you are considering a fun dinner in Spartanburg, try the "Streaking Birdies" - arguably the best golf simulator restaurant in the Upstate. Food is good and the simulators are great--play any course in the world! It's downtown and you could take in a minor league baseball game at the new stadium--3 minute walk -(If they have a home game when you're having your weekend).

Musgrove Mill CC in Clinton is excellent, but tough. An Arnold Palmer designed course carved out of wilderness along the Enoree River.

It is private as well. If you are like me and shoot around 90, you won’t have any balls left to play elsewhere after playing Musgrove.

Not only is it private, and although a great course, it is way too difficult for golfers who shoot 95-105.

I’m good just about any weekday in June except next Friday 6/13. My family tends to tie up my Saturdays so I think the only Saturday in June that I’m open is maybe 6/28.
I’ll leave it to the working guys to pick specific dates.

If the grass has come in, River Falls Plantation, in between Greenville and Spartanburg, is a great place to play as well.

Played River Falls as soon as they opened. Always wanted to go back after it matured. If I remember correctly it was not an easy track. Loved the lay out. Still had some type trailer as their club house so have not been back since they built all of that. Been many years ago.

they seem to be in a green recovery mode.
Hole 12 even has a temporary green.
They place is awesome (bar, Travis the head pro), and the regulars.
I'd just wait a bit so the greens can come back.

Try Arrowhead Pointe on Lake Russell. A bit longer drive but worth it. Course not as plush as walker course but plenty nice. lake views are great and about half the price of the walker course.

We just had 16 of my buddies play there for 4 days. We stayed in the cabins and had a great time. The course was a little wet from all the rain, but was in great shape. I shot 88, 89, 80, and we played captain’s choice on the last day (which my team won).

Not sure what is considered public with the Cliff courses but they look awesome. Been wanting to try a few but again have not researched enough to see if they might all be private. Go down to Clemson or the Greenville area numerous times a year and still have not played the Walker Course. Dang shame really. I need to set that up! Good luck a lot of what I know to be good tracks have already been mentioned.

Thanks for all of the Feed back and input everyone. If we are able to get a tee time on the walker course, I think our 3rd Corse for the weekend will be Cherokee Valley. My first time doing something like this so let me know if you'd change it.
Friday: Lunch somewhere around Clemson. 2-3PM Tee time Walker Course. If we can't get on at Clemson will try to do Southern Oaks, Greer Golf or Village Green. Saturday: 8am ish Tee Time Green Valley Saturday: 130-2 Lunch at Cherokee Valley or Links O Tryon if CV not available- 3PM Tee Time
