found out the store I spend $$$ on my Scotch has a program now to get in a lottery. With the price of Scotch, it won't take long to get there, but the allocated stuff is all bourbon or whiskey products.
They do put the 10 year old Mitcher's Rye on the allocated list, so I probably would snag that.

Have to ask for it. Most places keep it stashed away.

And then you have to worry about the price, as many places will try and rip you off, while others will offer the regular price. Never go in and ask for something allocated without knowing the normal retail price range. Like Eagle Rare is around a $40 bottle. Some places have a bottle hidden and will sell it to you for $100. That's a liquor store I won't go back to.

then you go in the lottery they do once a quarter. They sell it at MSRP, and deduct that amount from your points, so you have to buy more to build your points up. Seems like a decent system.

every month or two. Generally, if a new bottle shows up on my shelf, it's from playing a local(ish) razz on one of the FB fireball pages. If there was something I really wanted, which is pretty uncommon these days since I just don't have the disposable income for hooch anymore, I "got a guy"--buddy who moves a hefty amount of allocated stuff from his contact in Texas, who is somewhere in the tiered distribution system.
M10 rye is a tasty pour, btw. Lemme know what else they have or that you're pondering if you're unsure of a bottle.

days, and hopefully it stays relatively easy to find. Average price should be around $60 now, and since whiskey in general seems to be on a downward trend, hopefully it stays there. I have one that's almost 139 proof, and it's good, but I don't like it as much as some other JD ryes I've had.
Michter's toasted barrel rye is one of my absolute faves--it's an allocated bottle so you won't see it on a shelf unless it's for a price you shouldn't pay, but going secondary rate should be...$160-170, maybe? If it's a points option at your store, definitely grab it--it's better than the M10 rye, imo.

outside of Wilmington right before they closed and there were plenty of good bottles just sitting there. Maybe that aint hard to find stuff anymore, but I hadn't seen Eagle Rare on the shelf since well before COVID. NC laws are different though, since the State owns the stores, or something like that.

prices tend to be a tiny bit lower here in NC and a tiny bit lower again in GA
was recently in TX and it was oddly mixed, some scotch was cheaper, some was more
