I think it is safe to say that BOTH Riley men turned in disappointing seasons

this year. None moreso than Lincoln Riley at USC (The Real One). With their impending move to the BIG, do you think he will finally be able to hire a coordinator that can actually coach defense?

Butt, let us also not forget, whenever his "high powered" offense ran into teams with decent defenses this year, they only produced:

20 points vs Notre Dame
32 points vs Utah
42 vs Washington
27 vs Oregon
20 vs UCLA

You could certainly argue that a good defense would have won them the Utah and Washington games. GREAT defense could have them undefeated, or at least 11-1 / 10-2. Butt, woulda coulda shoulda. Nobody could play THAT game better than US.

Lincoln definitely... Riley not so much...

Looking at Lincoln's time at Oklahoma, I'm not convinced that just going and getting a new shiny DC will fix the problem. It seem to be philosophical. His teams at Oklahoma? All offense no defense. So it seems to be something structural about the way he builds his program that he'll need to reassess.

As for our Riley, yeah we all had dreams of snapping back to the 2015-2018 offensive look but that was never really grounded in reality given the talent we have on hand. I've been pleased that the last three weeks the offense has finally looked like it was beginning to function with purpose, and I expect that to continue as he installs more of what he wants to do and adapts to the personnel we have.

Brent was one of the best all time DCs I've seen, and it took him a year and a half or so to really get things rolling on defense.

If Streeter was still here do you see our offense getting better every week? I don’t. If he continues to make play calls that build up CK and we win out I don’t think we should be disappointed at all. We were on the way down and we bottomed out on a 9-4 if this proves to be the case. That’s a Coot U wet dream!

Your point about defense is good but your attempt to say they "only" scored 42 points against Washington is just flat out dumb. Think about it, 42 points against undefeated Washington and you blame the offense.

I'm not sure I'm buying that about Garrett Riley. Considering what he's had to work with, I think he's done a pretty dang good job. And, the offense seems to be clicking at the right time. As opposed to last year where we regressed down the stretch.

You are correct. And he can’t hold on to the ball for the players either. Think what our production would have been if we didn’t fumble every other time we were in the red zone. I think after 5 games we were #3 in red zones trips and like #115 in red zone scoring.
