What life is like with multiple kids (Food Edition)

As most of you know, I've got three kids. No more, no less. Anyways, we just got an email from my youngest kids' teacher that he keeps asking for a snack during snack time and that we do not pack much for his lunch so he is saving all that for lunch time. My wife works at the same school so she is a little mortified that one of her coworkers thinks we are keeping food from our kids.
Also, daughter texted me monday saying I didn't pack her enough lunch and she needed me to go to Chic-fil-A to get her some lunch. My response was JUST SHORT of ####.
Now, to the REAL LIFE version of this story.
Greenr packs lunch for the kids, each gets a sandwich, a granola bar, a bag of chips, and an apple/orange/fruit of some sorts. Occasionally we pack more. 40% of the time, food comes back home uneaten. Kids are starving when they get home, eat ALL the snacks in the house because they cannot control themselves (or chose not to control themselves) and Greenr is upstairs in his office working. Yesterday the boys alone ate a pack of oreos and multiple bags of chips, 3-4 oranges and a giant honeycrisp apple.
So the conundrum is, buy more snacks, pack more snacks, they throw away snacks or eat them all at home in the afternoon. But somehow this has gotten to the teacher as though we do not give him enough food to eat.
JFC, my grocery bill is through the fuggin roof. I want to lock food up away from them, but haven't taken that step yet.
This is a stupid pointless post that I almost deleted before posting, but decided to post anyways because I spent too much time writing it.

My son's grade eats lunch at 1030 am. So by the time he gets to me at 3 he's starving.

Our kids have a ziplock bag in their backpacks of additional snacks since like FBcooch said, some of them eat lunch at breakfast times. They almost always eat all they lunch cause the lunchbox is empty. They'll ask me for snack when I pick em up but Tickle_it don't do snacks so I tell them to wait until dinner. That ensures they eat all their dinner instead of throwing out half of it like they will if you give them a snack at like 5.

from Costco. I've also bought at least 1 new car per child because the cars I've bought for myself fit the current situation. I sold my 2019 Fjuanfiddy just to get a '22 the exact same truck but with a front bench. I've given up now on fitting everyone in my truck and I will never be truckless so we'll figure something out.

I forgot what he was doing, I wasn't there but got a play by play of the action. It just made him more pissed, when she wasn't looking he grabbed her phone and hid it under his stuffed animal collection. Of course it was on vibrate, so it took it forever to find it. Honestly I was kind of impressed with the vindictiveness, while simultaneously worried about his future.

she is going to eat what we make. If she doesn't like it, she will go hungry. We do not make her eat it but sure as hayull don't make her something she likes just so that she has food in her. Not gonna starve over not eating one meal. When they get hungry enough, they'll eat.

Back in the Charleston days when I'd have
Sep 21, 2023, 10:56 AM

Sunday supper with the family I've shared many stories about I was both ends of the spectrum when it came to eating. The oldest would try anything and I never saw her turn stuff down. The middle wouldn't hardly eat anything, it was a real fight. It kinda became my job to distract the oldest from this so her dinner time wasn't a horrible experience. The baby was still a baby back then so I don't know what her deal was.
Anyway, I'd have had to go out for cigarettes along time ago if that was my every night. That is why I knew having kids wasn't for me.

My guess on what's happening here....
You are packing them a terrific lunch. Seems reasonable in terms of balance/nutrition. Them kids ain't eating it because they can just wait, go home, and pound a whole thing of oreos and multiple bags of chips, unabated.
I'd kill off the junk food bail out at home, and learn 'em that they gotta eat what you pack. Maybe offer them the sweet sweet alternative of eating a school lunch instead. That or switch out what you pack and let them have some buy in for what is being sent. You can do this at night before school.
The final option I would submit here is to beat their fuggging ##### with jumper cables every day, just on general principle.

you won't have to worry about this stuff AT ALL. Wait 'till they drive.
They'll hit DD or Starbucks for about $11 on the way to school, have a couple of pizza slices and fries for lunch at about another $7, then hit CFA on the way home for another $12.
Then they'll claim not be hungry at dinner, so you'll quit cooking for them. An excuse to run to they homeboy/gurl's house pops up in the 7:00 hour and turns into a trip to Moes for another $14.
$50 per kid later, you're off the hook my man.
You're going to say WELL I WON'T GIVE 'EM MONEY. Guess what: They'll find it. Somehow they produce it, borrow it, steal it...I dunno how, but they do.

Set the guidelines, teach them to follow it and they are 1000 percent more likely to eat it when they see the work that goes into packing.
My 8 yr old packs his own lunch every night and he eats it all vs when I packed it all coming home uneaten. My middle schooler has decided it's just easier to eat off the salad bar at school.

2 yr old was going on raids and would eat boutdam 4 applesauces while I was cookin dinner
idk what I'll do, but I know what I do now, and that's to not buy snacks. we had leftover snacks from toddlers b-day party, and man, I was eating dadgum rice kripsy treats every night for a MONTH. eff that noise man, I don't eat that kinda crap...but I can't resist it if it's in the house haha.
toddler isn't eating well at daycare so she's hungry when I pick her up. I usually give her the snack from the morning and let her eat that. it's just Kix cereal in a little cup.
I try to keep em from eating until supper, but wife doesn't. my biggest fear is having a fat kid.
I'd do a hybrid of not buying junk, and kms idea of having them pack their lunches, then lock up any treats until they learn.

This is a 2 yr old.
That's like saying hiding the lighters and propane torch will turn the kid into a pyromaniac. We're establishing boundaries here.
Worried about raising a fat kid at 2 yrs old is no bueno though.

and this family with a young girl, I'd guess between 4-6, took off running down this other part of the path, jumped on a rock, and ran back. Said she had to do extra so she didn't get fat. Now, if you've been kind enough to watch my Youtube stuff, you know what I look like. Dad had about my build. Mom didn't appear to be a fitness freak but was in pretty good shape for mom in her early 30s. So where did the kid get the worried about being fat from?

that?
I had to end a friendship over my former friend fat shaming my daughter. She would make the girls run laps before she'd let them eat. She uninvited my daughter from a birthday instagram photo shoot for her daughter because the costume "wouldn't fit" her (she was 8 at the time).
Daughter of is a very healthy, slim girl... she's a 00/XS. Not an ounce of fat on her body and she's very muscular from being a competitive equestrian.

but I tend to believe that.
There is some sort of Instagram-induced body image issues that parents are now forcing down on their kids. That ain't gonna work out well for that kid, I am sure.
Also, photo-shoots and costumes for an 8-year old birthday party? Sounds terrible.

Yeah and it started out when the kids were toddlers
Sep 21, 2023, 11:40 AM

like we'd get chick fil and she would ask if we could not let the kids have french fries until after her picky kids would eat (she sure as #### ate fries herself). Meanwhile my children don't even like french fries and that didn't happen because I wouldn't let them have them.
She wouldn't give her kids milk when they were toddlers because she couldn't control herself and would drink a gallon of milk.
She was crazy, but her mother was craycray too.

talk me through this one
my comment about locking the pantry was joungy, obviously. she's a freaking 2 year old who figured out how to open a door and open the trash can, lol. applesauce, open it, one sip, trash. on repeat. while I"m cooking and wife is feeding 7 month old.
obviously won't need to lock the pantry when they're old enough to get a good old fashioned ### whoopin

Fed mine mainly deer meat spaghetti or cubed steak w/grits and some vegetable, fish we caught plus other wild game. The occasional burger and shake and sammiches at school. His mother cooked occasionally along with Ms. Stoffer's. He's now 6'3", 260, and a really good cook. Got himself a fat doe with bow and arrow yesterday so he's not starving for another week or so. He told me a recipe for dove quesadillas sounded pretty good.

my wife was a fat kid
my sister's still morbidly obese. very bad.
junk food, sodas, ###### parenting, etc. was the culprit. fat kids are everywhere and it's a societal problem. and it can happen in no time w/ both parents working, junk food in the house, etc.
we cook at least 5 nights a week, meat + veggies, and limit junk food. I respectfully disagree this causes an eating disorder, it's establishing good eating habits cooking and eating real food and not just eating #### all day.

girls.
1 is in med school, 1 is in psychology at Winthrop. They're on their own for lunch.
When I sub, however, I pack my own lunch. Today is a pastrami and provolone sammich on pumpernickel with some cheddar sun chips.. I always pack some quick snacks, but I too often bring them home.
Been a long time since I packed a kids lunch.

Put the junk food somewhere they can't get to or don't
Sep 21, 2023, 10:42 AM

know where it is.
Get organizing plastic thingys and fill with reasonable snacks - trail mix, different bars, fruit snacks . . . . googler reasonably healthy snacks.
Tell them they can have as much of this as they want, whenever - help themselves.
Keep packing the same lunch - maybe throw in an oreo or dorito or something that gets them to open it.
Can't believe this shid poast has 700 responses and you posted it less than 2 hours ago.

boiled peanuts but only from a roadside stand on the way to a football game or to the mountains.
I assumed the cans were just like potted meat, nobody really ever eats that stuff.

overnight. I use two cups of salt, but you may like them less salty. Just as good as the peanut stand man, if not better.

Pack the kids a dozen Oreo cookies, some twinkies, fruit snacks, and some chips. This way they will eat, and the teachers and school will have no problem with your packing junk food. Now healthy food that's uneaten.....that's just bad parenting.

kept a mix of snacks - mostly healthy. the packed lunches were almost identical to yours (added bottled water or juice box) all three being different, mom and i knew which would be empty, half empty, and just touched when they got home.
the dollars came from all the other shid girls #### need or mom buys when they don’t need. then they hit 12/13 and it started with the starbucks, dunkin donuts chickfila, cook out. we were like, sure! it is time for you to start working - thx for reminder. we would treat them some, but the dog sitting money, babysitting money, working at the pool money - if you want that more than once a week my dear, that’s on you. once they went broke, they learned.
