If Dabo left Clemson today, how would he be remembered regarding his time as Head Coach?

seasons in 20+ years. Wins over big-time SEC programs -- UGA which had not been done since 1990 and LSU which was the 1st time. 2 wins over Auburn--first since the 50's. First win over VT since the 1980's.

At this point? IMO losing to the coots, WVU and beating LSU. Until he wins a BCS bowl that's really all to remember. Yeah we won an ACC Champ but no one is going to care much about that in 10 years outside of Clemson fans.

Just answering th OP. In 10 years not beating the coots will be the most talked about if he doesn't win this year.

Interesting comparative numbers with a coach that was fired.
Dabo - 68.1 winning percentage and 1 ACC Championship Hatfeld 71.1% winning percentage and 1 ACC Championship

Well, if I were a #### like you seem to think, then I would be sure to torment you if the Tigers fall again, right? I would probably ask you if you could really stomach another year of #### supremacy on the gridiron, or something like that. However, if I'm a Tiger fan, then I'm going to tell you that Dabo couldn't get it done again, if the gamecocks win. Now if Clemson wins, and I'm a ####, then naturally I would stay off this board, maybe never to be heard from again. Conversely, if I get to celebrate a Tiger victory, then I might want to tell you that it's about time that Dabo finally won a game against those suckers. So look on the bright side my friend, you have four fun-filled scenarios to play out in your mind for the next 30 days.

Are you kidding? Hatfield had Danny Fords unreal talent in 90 and 91. In 2010 we had no offensive weapons at all when Ellington got hurt. Nuk was our best and he was a true freshman.

I think during one of the games this year
Oct 28, 2013, 9:18 AM

they put up a graphic comparing Dabo with several of the most successful coaches out there. His numbers were just as good if not better.
I think if we all go back to the Thursday night in Winston-Salem some years back, and someone was to tell us that over the next 4-5 years we would win an ACC title, have multiple 10-win seasons, and start knocking of top-10 SEC teams, well, I think we all would have been pretty excited about that.
There are a ton of teams out there that would kill to have Dabo as their coach. I am just glad he is a Clemson Tiger!

to interview Dabo. If we fired him he would end up as a recruiting coordinator or maybe a WR coach at a major program. The only HC jobs he'd get would be small programs. And he doesn't want that. If he did he would have paid his dues and worked his way up the coaching ranks like everyone else. No one was interested in him after he was fired at Bama. He's simply not a very good coach.

Built a top 10-15 program.

Took recruiting up a notch and brought in the best talent since the 1980s/Danny Ford era.
Returned the program to the highest level since the 1980s/Danny Ford era in terms of wins and championships.
Went head-to-head with and beat top 10 SEC teams.
In the era of the internet and message board experts, faced criticism and detractors in spite of his success.
Lost 4 in a row to USuCk.
Never able to totally eliminate the inexplicable occasional blowout loss.

exactly the same as TB's last 3 or 4 classes.
TB built the program, not Dabo. Dabo had a losing season. Had TB effectively replaced RichRod he'd still be HC. Dabo has gotten slightly better results thanks to Morris.
I predicted when Dabo was hired he'd get marginally better results, but not make significant progress towards being capable of winning a national championship.
That was 100% accurate.

TB had a #13 & 18 class in 07 and 08 before a #2 class in 08. And that class was highlighted by who? CJ Spiller recruited by Dabo. Dabo's last 3 classes have been ranked 8, 10, & 13.

more for Clemson than any coach in history, save Danny Ford. But Dabo is far from done yet, plus it cannot be discounted that Ford played in a considerably easier ACC and he still lost a bunch of games he should have won. Those losses cost us shots at more national titles.

Slightly better results with much better teams than TB started out with.

pathetic conference. Then had a losing season. Thanks to Morris we over power les talented teams. Teams we use to "pull a Clemson" against. There is ZERO evidence Dabo could do what TB did.
People forget how terrible we were when TB took over.
NO talent.
NO facilities.
NO love or attention in the media.
Bad recruiting.
And the ACC was better than any year since Dabo has been here till this year. FSU was dominating back then.
TB rebuilt our program from the ashes. His main sin was under achieving. Had he replaced RichRod with a good OC he'd still be our HC.

happened mainly under Bowden. I give TB credit for getting the ball rolling on facility upgrades and upgrading recruiting. But, there's no evidence that Dabo wouldn't had done the same if given the opportunity back then. It was painfully evident that we were only going to go so far under Bowden, who had a sense of entitlement by the way. Dabo is like a kid on Christmas morning with this opportunity and he's made the most of it. You can't dismiss his success because of he having good assistants. EVERY successful coach has been surrounded by good assistants.

Under TB the highest ranking we achieved was #14 in the 2000 Coaches poll. Dabo #9 in the 2012 coaches poll. So now please explain how Dabo has not done better than TB?

To be considered great he has to at least even the record against the coots. Of course if he left now that would not be possible and while most of us would remember the good run the team has had under his reign, the bitter pill of going 5 years between wins (if we win this year) will always be there. Hope he retires 27 - 4 vs the peckers.

Clemson to relevancy on the national scene. Did everything the right way which is unusual this day and time. Graduated his players. Does a lot outside football with his foundation. Positive imagine for the program. A winner!!

Babo has the train going in the right direction and the positives far outweigh the negatives. Ask me this in 2028...

Good hires
Unfortunately, as someone else already pointed out, he is scarred by 4 straight losses. The good should outweigh the bad...many people just all the time want to look at the bad.

It should tell Clemson fans all they need to know when South Carolina fans say they don't want Dabo to ever leave.

The main problem I had with TB was he didn't seem emotionally engaged enough in the program (maybe he had a good poker face). I think he got CU to a point and could not evolve. Yes he was beating inferior coot teams. Dabo takes over after most of us were ready for TB to leave, and beats the coots in his first meeting (as I remember the game, the coots also beat themselves). Enter CM and the O picks up (I give Dabo credit for that). The D stinks for two seasons and after the Orange Bowl disaster, Steel is gone and V comes in and the D starts to turn around.
However, if recruiting (Dabo's area of strength)is no better than TB, then CU may be entering another stagnant period. I do expect the D to possibly improve next year, but the O is beginning to sputter. Yes he has lost 4 in a row to very god coot team, but that is why you should build an even better CU team. If we cant beat a strong coot team, we won't beat FSU anytime soon.
A step above where we were, but there are steps yet to go.

What's he need to convince himself of? A lot of USC fans do feel that way, and there's no reason for them not to. They've beaten us by more than 2 scores per game on average since Dabo has been the full-time HC (minus 2008, if you really count that), hence why they probably are comfortable with him being here.

know OBC is temporary.
They can pretend Dabo is not building all they want, but that's objectively not the case. Most of them can see it just like most of us do, hence they try to convince themselves otherwise.

Two things that probably won't happen anytime soon. Well, you might beat us from time to time, but until Dabo learns to recruit offensive and defensive linemen by the boatload, he won't be able to beat the Gamecocks consistently enough for most Clemson fans.

Dabo is no doubt one of the greatest coaches winning wise in Clemson history. But as we all know if you cant beat the coots you'll never get the recognition you may deserve!

Let's see, Dabo's legacy? Well, he is the best salesman that Clemson ever had, because if he says it, at least 95% of Tiger fans take it as gospel. Frank Howard comes in second here, because a lot of the outlandish stuff he said was obviously taken by most people as satirical or pure cornpone humor. Coach Swinney is also the most passionate about his school, and takes every possible opportunity to convince the fanbase that he has his dream job. He is a great recruiter, and is a very good, moral man. He is an eternal optimist, always chasing rainbows, and sees the "glass half full" in every situation. Because of his positive outlook, I'm not so sure that he can be as effective in convincing his players to improve their weaknesses, as a crusty Ford/Saban type coach. Now maybe he really can, and I honestly wouldn't know, because I'm not at practice everyday. This is just my opinion, though it seems very logical to me. I also believe that one of his finest traits has been his ability to grow and mature as a CEO type head coach for the Tigers. He has improved tremendously in this area, and unlike some other head coaches, his ego has allowed him to bring in two excellent coordinators. His final legacy will be determined by his number of ACC titles, his overall W-L record, and how he fares against his rival over his time at Clemson.

horribly (WVU, FSU). Beat LSU. Taking the Tigers to 10 wins in a weak ACC. Never shaking the "Clemsoning" verb.

the second best of all time. In due time, Dabo may very well be the most decorated coach in Clemson history. Those are the relevant facts, not your weak, desperate try to degrade the job Dabo is doing.
And as far as your desperation, what do you mean by, "Never shaking the "Clemsoning" verb"?
