Americans are funny people

Everybody wants something but seemingly nobody wants to pay for it in higher taxes. It would be funny if not so pathetic. Gee if only we taxed that other guy to pay for my wants and needs!
Truth is SS/Medicare has not been adjusted since the mid 80'S on percentages. No, raising the cap is not the answer either because the benefit payout would be way higher as a max benefit. Unless you think not paying them if just, me, I would call that theft.
Top 1% pays right at 43% of all federal income tax collected. The top 10% collectively pays right at 70% of all collected. Next 40% pays right at 27% collected leaving the bottom 50% to pay the remaining 3%. There is nothing fair about our tax system by definition.
Truth is nobody should be getting a tax cut in the continuing Trump breaks, NOBODY. We are $36T in debt and sometimes you gotta stop digging that hole.

Yeah maybe they should do non tax cuts and still do the spending cuts and see what happens. That was interesting to see how they mess that up too or whether it does some good with the debt.

Messed up what? Does cutting spending and waste while working in parallel using a multi-front approach scare you? Yeah, it may look hectic but there's a purpose. Are you one dimensional and want things done sequential to drag it out for years and years because you can't see the big picture? The government waste and spend "gutting" should be over by July 2026 and you can relax.
Move on with the tax cuts too. I would rather not see me and all other Americans be stuck with an average $7000 per year increase in taxes by letting the current cuts expired. Are you against tax cuts too?
Did the Biden spending matter to you the last 4 years? The debt rose from just over $28 Trillion at the end of Trump's last fiscal year in September 2021 to current the current debt of $36+ Trillion and we're still in Biden's last fiscal year which ends September 2025. Was it right for Biden to stick it to Americans this way? By the time the 2025 fiscal year ends, it looks like the article "Biden's $7 Trillion Lie" is going to be under to be underestimated by about $2 Trillion.

My taxes are high enough. I need to see something for that money. The potholes I drive over every day aren't where my money is going, that's for sure.

Hence why old Elon is digging through the wasteland of DC. Potholes are mostly a function of State government in truth though, unless on an Interstate.
My taxes are what I would call low, an effective rate of right at 8.7% combined Federal/State on an income of $100k without out ever leaving the front door. Living in a low tax State is always good in retirement!
You see a big military, SS / Medicare payments, folks on welfare/snap/medicaid and the interest on the debt, currently at around $900B a year alone. There is where your money is going.
$36T+ is not gonna get lowered by pointing to the other folks. Tough choices need to be made on just what the citizens want, then ALL should help pay for it.

Gv't doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. Since your rate is so low, why don't you pay more? The IRS will take your check.

You miss the point and also missed the stats in original post. Reality is the US has 50% of filers that pay nothing in federal taxes and get money back. Everyone should have skin in the game as it becomes way too easy to vote for taxing the other guy.
My effective rate is not unusual or done by accounting scams. Standard married filing jointly deduction, taxed on 85% SS and a small portion of annuities tax free.
Really most people are not taxed at an outrageous rate, they just think they are. Plus SC is a low tax State. There was a point my filing for SC included a check for $20k that was owed.
Currently moving stuff in to zero tax stuff so I can withdraw from my 401k and stay around that 8.7% effective rate. You do know what an effective rate means right?

Most people who make any kind of living are paying a much higher percentage than you are in taxes. Why do you attribute their situation to being a figment of their imagination? And that's before taking into account things like sales and property taxes which are paid on top of income taxes.

Look , married filing jointly can have a combined income of $123K and have an effective tax rate of around less than 9.5% federal. Most folks look at the final number alone and scream bout my taxes.
We all pay sales tax and property tax, that is a liberal argument on tax fairness you know? One that holds no water. Yes renters pay it to as it is in the rent.

I did the math for you, it is an effective federal rate of 8.7% in example above.

I would prefer a lower flat tax on all and a National sales tax. A VAT would capture tax revenue on the estimated $2T cash economy.

You don't reduce spending and then look at how you can reduce revenue. You look to reduce spending and either maintain or increase revenue.
Not that hard of a concept, but I know you and your kind are not good at recognizing nuance.

So, we have a spending problem? What do you propose cutting? Our biggest outlays as follows: Health insurance SS Defense Debt service Money returned to States.
We take in roughly $5t and spend roughly $6.8t, so where are do we make up the difference?

His answers will just be fraud and waste. He won't have the answer, but he believes there is enough waste of we signing there through all programs. Maybe he is right? I wouldn't know.

I am all for doing what it takes to lower the debt. If DOGE does it that would be fine. Thing is Trump is not talking balanced budgets or debt reductions, just spending in different areas than the past 4 years.
Really no difference at all and we keep kicking the proverbial can down the road.

He is talking balanced budgets.
And any tax cuts would be aimed at developing more commerce, investment, and money changing hands that would end up creating more revenue (taxes).

Trump is talking about a balanced budget and debt reduction. Do you agree that if U.S. business grows they hire more workers and the businesses pay more taxes and more individual taxes are paid which provides more income to the government (it happened after the 2017 tax cuts). Add the increased tax revenue to the cuts in government spending, waste and fraud and the the debt can start being paid off. If it doesn't happen, my grand kids and all future generations are screwed.

What deficit amount do you think gets the US of A in trouble?
Folks complaining about potential cuts to SS, Medicare/cade don’t seem to think it’s an issue.

Folks complaining about potential cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid think we shouldn't be giving rich people another $4.5 trillion tax cut when we have a budget deficit and a $36 trillion national debt.

IMO, the debt should be less than $15 Trillion or less than $50,000 per American. Just like a mortgage, it could be paid off in 30 years by cutting $500 billion in spending plus interest each year. That's about $63 Billion per month. Chop a few payments to support foreign wars, stop supporting the Teachers union, and quit paying support to illegal immigrants and bingo!
Which folks are talking about cuts to SS, Medicare, and Medicaid? The only ones I hear those words from are Democrats. Is stopping SS payments to or paying medicare and medicaid for illegal immigrants wrong? Stopping the fraud and waste is not a cut to the programs for Americans, it's cutting unnecessary spending that can be used elsewhere.

The tax system might seem fairer if you consider much of the country's wealth is owned by the rich and how little is owned by the poor.
Top 1% pays 43% of federal income tax and owns 30.8% of the wealth
Top 10% pays 70% and owns 66.9%
Next 40% pays 27% and owns 30.6%
Bottom 50% pays 3% and owns 2.5%
