And for his family because he likely won’t live through his freshman year. This thing ain’t no joke. College-age kids maybe have a 50-50 chance of survival. (Or it must be something like that. If someone has the actual risk of death or serious long-term health effects like that one guy that had the heart inflammation thing, please post! #FollowTheScience #FollowFauciNoMatterHowOftenHeChangesHisAnswer) Don’t play Russian Roulette with your lives Tigers.

Does anyone...anyone remember why Ohio State almost

cancelled their season last year. BEFORE vaccines? It was due to a study Ohio State conducted, and a VERY specific thing. Anyone remember? Remember how ticked we were they made the playoffs with so few games, and they started late?
15% of college athletes who got covid BEFORE vaccines, naturally, got the heart condition. Ohio State freaked out over this and almost cancelled their season.
Any vaccine side effects will also be covid side effects. If you want to play russian roulette, take a 15% chance with the natural infection, or something FAR less than that with the vaccine. You pick.
Here's the study/science fwiw:

Thank you for posting a scientific study w/o an agenda

IEven though you used it to promote your agenda.
The refreshing part of that study is that it was done in a scientific manner. The author admitted the data could be flawed because there wasnt any baseline data to compare.. ...and more importantly the author clearly stated more long term study was needed to form a more definitive conclusion.
Do you know if they continued the study ans have results from these athletes today? I wonder if they are still showing signs of myocardial inflammation or if that was a temporary condition.

It is a statistically common occurrence with natural covid

infections, and seems to happen more in younger people with stronger immune systems. Their stronger reaction to the virus/vaccine causes them to have that issue where older people tend not to. You can get if from influenza and other nasty viruses. But there have been other studies. Most people don't even notice the problem, or if they do, it's mild. And it goes away without complications almost always. ALSO, there are many ways to diagnose the problem. MRI, just feeling bad and having symptoms, blood tests, and each way of diagnosing the condition has different levels of sensitivity. Generally, it's accepted that an MRI provides the most accurate, and sensitive diagnosis. So sensitive some people can be diagnosed with it on an MRI at any time.
Anyway, it is a common side effect of covid, and they estimate 15% of college aged kids get the condition, and most never know. And since the vaccine IS covid, well, it's also a common reaction among that age group as well to the vaccine. Even with a sensitive MRI test though, it is statistically FAR less common in vaccinated teens than teens who get natural covid.
Bottom line is it's not a big deal. 50% of people vaccinated will not die from the vaccine. 100% of them will die from something though, some day.
Way I see it, personally, you're going to get covid eventually. The vaccine contains 100% pure covid spike protein mRNA, the original Wuhan flavor anyway. It is the same natural process of a covid infection, without the payload of the virus. On paper it's really safer than other vaccines. But there are some side effects, and every single one is also found with natural covid infections. That's because the vaccine IS covid. A free infection without the pneumonia and hospital stay. Might as well get it. It won't stop covid. It won't keep you from getting covid, or even getting sick. But your body recognizing the spike protein is enough to give you a leg up fighting it. It's not new, and it increases the odds of a milder illness. It's like getting covid naturally, and that first infection is the one that will get you dead or in a hospital more than subsequent ones.

and presented in a respectful way. I do appreciate that.
There is one important piece that no one (to our knowledge) has the answer to. We simply do not know what the possible long term effects of the injection may be, and it is naive to think that is not a factor.
Yes, it makes sense for many people to get the injections. Mostly older and/or unhealthy and obese people should probably take their chances and get the shot. For people who very likely have a strong immune system and presumably a lot of years left to live, the injection may not be the right gamble at this time.

When you're staring up at somebody in a face shield and double n95's, trying to intubate you so that you have enough time to make a social media post bemoaning to the world that you should have listened to people telling you to take the shot, I will feel some sorrow for whatever minimal contribution you provide to the world.

I can argue both sides of the vaccine debate. I respect everyone’s vaccine or no vaccine decision. No one knows if there are long term complications from the vaccine. I have two families members that have been hospitalized within 72 hours of receiving the vaccine. I also live in math word. For me the math does not lie. My local school district publishes Covid numbers on Fridays. Last school year, the elementary students did not catch covid. Not so this year. The first numbers for this school year were published Friday. I was shocked at the number of cases at our elementary schools. Also, our three hospitals here in Augusta publish daily Covid inpatient numbers. Two of the three also state vaccinated or non vaccinated. Of the inpatient admits, 90-94 percent are non vaccinated. So that is the math here in Augusta. Do with it what you want. Stay healthy out there.

Here are some COVID death numbers from DHEC. I'm not sure if a dozen-ish deaths for college age students supports taking a vaccine for which we have zero long term studies. And if you're going to reference prior data on mRNA studies, please point to which of those included HUMAN trials.
Age Range.......Deaths 15-19............... 5 20-24............... 13 65-69............... 1101 70-74............... 1409
You can find the full chart (with all the age ranges) here: https://scdhec.gov/covid19/sc-testing-data-projections-covid-19

Why aren’t the long-term effects from the COVID virus mentioned by people like you?
Right now, the data we have show clearly that the short- and long-term effects from COVID are far more significant than those from the vaccine.

A few of thoughts:
1. I could not find that age-stratified data on the DHEC site. However, I did see that SC has around 8k deaths due to Covid, but your chart shows a little over 2500. Are the remaining deaths over 74 years old? Can you screen shot or help with navigation? I am genuinely curious to see the data.
2. I don't think deaths are the only concern. We have to remember that for each death there are X hospitalizations, and X > 1. So the concern is that as Covid spreads, hospitals saturate, and then deaths from many other causes, not just Covid, go up.
3. You may be disappointed in the definition of "long" in "long term" studies. I linked a good article earlier in this thread that explained EUA vs. BLA (full approval), and the longest term study that will likely be required is 6 months. Full approval is coming soon. I am not sure is that is typical or if it is based on the nature of the vaccine itself.

I thought it would be obvious that I was just picking some age ranges to compare college age to older people. i.e. how a decision should be made using a risk analysis based on age.
Here's the chart for those who can't "internet" (i.e. click link in previous post and scroll down)

That is all good, but if the Delta variant of the covid virus isn't enough of an incentive to be vaccinated, and if they catch that version of the virus, then oh well, they have surly been forewarned. But I'll bet that if they get to where they can't breathe air into their lungs, they will be praying for another chance to get vaccinated. Life, your life is precious people, and I would rather be alive and worry about the long term affect of the vaccine, than dead, and not ever having another chance to be vaccinated!!!! Just remember this, the covid 19 or the Delta variants of covid 19 do not Discriminate!!!!!

If you are very, very special, they might perform it on your specimen because it uses more expensive gene sequencing. Otherwise, they take a sample of positive PCR tests and sequence them for which variants they are. So if you hear 80% of new cases are delta, it means that 80% of a subset was delta.

I read an article on how they sample
Aug 16, 2021, 12:43 AM

Can’t find it now, but found this one. Nature implied in April in this article that it’s more unorganized. I started to say more random, but randomized samples from within different regions is what we want short of sequencing every specimen. I always understood every copy of a virus is slightly different because of how it’s replicated, but that’s probably an oversimplification.

or something out there which simply wants to report facts, and knows what they’re talking about. The CDC has shown themselves to be incompetent at best.
I believe a variant exists. However, giving it a name and then reporting that everyone has it (when we have no way of knowing who has it) just adds to the steaming pile of unanswered questions.

So, bringing this back around to football, I notice UofSC thinks this is a great way to get rid of all those unwanted football tickets they have sitting around the Willy B offices. If you were on the fence about the vaccine, would you consider SCar tickets enough of an incentive to get yourself to Walgreens for a couple of shots?
