semi-pro football playoffs on December 31st we have in the first game the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan football team vs the city of Fort Worth, Texas football team. Then in the nightcap it's Columbus, Ohio football team vs Athens, Georgia football team. Why these teams should have any connection anymore to the Universities that happen to belong in these cities is beyond me.

Because, unlike the basketball team (and others) from Chapel Hill, NC, the players DO have to attend a few classes.

1 and done. At least not for the high profile players.
U enroll in fall... skip class.. get bad grades.. The university puts you on probation for the spring semester you skip classes, get bad grades
Sign with a free agent in March .. get a cash advancement.. wait for the NBA draft..

I do wonder how accurate that is though. Especially in the wake of the UNC debacle. Universities know they won’t be punished now, so why bother verifying.
Additionally, I’ve always been curious about the players that graduate in 3 years. I know it’s possible and I know I wasn’t the best student, but how likely is it that sooo many players (who spend time around the clock at training) are able to accomplish this. Again, not trying to poo poo on those who worked hard to do so. It just seems like a higher percentage than logical.

Agree, heck it took me 4 1/2 years to graduate, but they are doing in 3 because most go to school year around getting roughly 12 hours each summer including the summer before their freshman year.

Pretty simple. You have early enrollees and also everyone on the team take classes year round. I can't speak for CU specifically, but many places also put players on a track to graduate in less than 4yrs to give a buffer if a kid has to drop a class or in anticipation of a kid leaving after 3 years to go pro. Still leaves with a degree and doesn't need to come back to finish.

I've heard it works like this. A paper is assigned that you or I would have written ourselves. But that takes time and the ability to write. So athletes just do an outline and then staff sort of polish up the paper (they write it). Not sure how they do the test thing.
Be realistic. Clemson courses are designed for smart students. Clemson is more selective than Furman or Wofford. But somehow we get these stud football players. Do you really think they are doing real Clemson course work? Obviously there are outliers like TL, but as a general rule, everybody is cheating.

as I’d I was insulting to Clemson’s players. These new degrees they get are not what we think of as college degrees. No way as you say they can graduate sometimes in 2 1/2 years with a real degree.

so little of the African American race that they created an entire African American Studies undergraduate program where not a single class has to be attended for a degree to be obtained.
Un-freakin'-believable.

Are you saying that the material "covered in class" (where attendance isn't required) is supposed to be inherently known by the class participants?
You mean, kinda like 'Name That Rapper' or 'Identify the Soulfood that goes best with each holiday'?
I don't want to be racist, so what material would you include in a White American Studies class if you don't require attendance? 'Growing up on a farm? 'What color skin do Jesus and Mary have'? 'Whose face is on a $50 Bill'? 'Pronounce Des Moines'. Hmmmm. All the White material seems more subjective.

The entire premise of the post was that, if you know it without having to attend class to learn it, it's a prejudice.
Some prejudice is accurate, some is inaccurate and some is only accurate in a specific context. But all of it demonstrates a failure of an academic institution doing its primary job.
They might as well turn that diploma into a rubber stamp: "the University of North Carolina proudly endorses everything the bearer of this certificate knew at the time he/she matriculated and did not attempt to alter that certainty in any way while benefitting from this 'student's athletic contributions to the University."
That's why I have said before, JK--even on the occasions when I totally agree with you, you need a sense of humor. (Maybe BECAUSE I agree with you)
