Which has probably helped him become who he is, but in the case of Twitter it's a major reason why he's lost the company more than half its value. It also seems like he's aware he's about to tank the company completely as evidenced by his outburst and weird behavior throughout that interview ("Earth will decide").
If your company needs advertisers to make money, it doesn't seem very reasonable to cast off those advertisers. And considering he's apologized for liking an anti-Semitic tweet, it seems pretty clear he understands and agrees with the advertiser's complaints, at least partly. This isn't about him "fighting for what is right" as much as Elon continuing his mental breakdown.

Once Musk briefly joined a team of business owners that was put together by Trump, that's when he started getting bashed by Dems and their corporate machine. Musk then understood who they were, and there has been a feud ever since. The people who want corporations to be able to control behavior through the use of money do not like Musk at this point.

that company has lost over half of its value due to the behavior and decisions of Musk (such as his liking an anti-semitic post) which has run off advertisers. It's not blackmail, it's not extortion or persecution, it's business. It's capitalism. Any desire to turn this into some persecution complex of Musk may work on the more partisan-minded but anyone who has objectively been following Musk's actions since buying Twitter can see the guy has been erratic and has made bad decisions resulting in a worse product.

I miss the good old days when you had no clue about the politics or opinions of a company or a CEO. I will spend money to avoid ads. On this site, youtube, hulu. Everything I stream, if there's an adfree option, I will gladly fork over the money. I'd rather the service I'm using get money directly from my pocket than from an ad agency that is doing nothing but wasting 30 seconds of my time before I watch a 20 second video on ESPN. I even turn off the radio in my car when commercials come on.

Money has to be a driving factor in Musk's life because that's what he's focused on doing; becoming a billionaire. He basically takes other ideas and finds ways to profit greatly on them.
But that's not the only factor so I should correct my statement. The guy is a megalomaniac narcissist on a quest for some type of power--and I'm not sure what that is yet--so there's the drive for that.
He's not the great man so many and the media make him out to be.

What I agreed with was the original writer worded something very clumsily and stupidly, and Elon's response was probably pretty stupid as well.
But, that comment from Elon, which has been commented on millions of times doesn't mean he holds anti semitic views.

I would never buy a Tesla because I don’t trust cars made by a company with his leadership. I don’t have confidence they are produced with consistency and are dependable. Customer reviews seem to back that up. A company gets its culture from the top, and he is all hype and ADD always jumping to the next thing that will make headlines. That’s not who I would trust with my vehicle purchase.
