DJ

Aug 13, 2022, 10:52 AM

My understanding is that under the current ncaa transfer portal rules, a player can enter the portal at any time of the year.
This is different than when Kelly Bryant transferred, correct? KB transferred out before he played in his fourth game, thus preserving his eligibility.
That was a very disruptive week for the program as we all recall and almost led to a Syracuse loss which would have probably kept us out of the playoff.
I think this situation burned us and that experience has impacted how Coach Swinney has handled the DJ situation, specifically in how he speaks about Klubnik and DJ publically. The entire staff seems to have been instructed on what to say and what not to say.
I also think he is handling the situation wisely and I'm not criticizing the approach. But, all of the optimism about how much improved DJ is going to be this year does not seem very credible. Spring game?
I think DJ could likely get us through our regular season schedule possibly undefeated, but are we going to beat an Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St. with DJ?
I will be pulling for DJ as we start the season, but I think Klubnik needs to get some PT and if it's obvious that Klubnik runs the offense better, then I think the coaching staff will make the move and let DJ decide what he wants to do.
That decision would have been much more difficult if Hunter Johnson hadn't transferred in.
Go Tigers!

IMHO DJ is starting from ground zero with the fan base. I think Dabo is pumping him up publicly so as to bolster DJ’s self confidence.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

We have 3 games we should easily win to guage

where DJ is. If he's still erratic then we have someone to move on to. Klubnick will get plenty of early PT

We’ll know by halftime at GT unless we just run all the time. Wish him the best but hesitancy to pull the trigger could cost us the season, at least a chance at the CFP. Mediocre or less won’t beat ND, Miami or NC State.

What in recent history makes you believe they

won't pull the trigger if warranted? DW started his 3rd game, TL his 4th.

I guess every situation is different, but Cole Stoudt did not have the 5 star status or a couple monster games as a freshman. KB2 had a strong 2017 season, but his passing limitations were clear for all to see. Trevor was the complete player and they knew it by the end of spring camp.

So now we see the DJ situation. If the light goes on he can put up Heisman type numbers, so the question is how long does Dabo and staff wait to see that happen before turning to Cade? My guess is that Dabo respects the hard work he has put in and will not be so quick as the prior two occasions.

The 5th game is State

we'll know by then. Wake is 4 but without their QB they lose a ton

No it’s not different. Once you play more than four games, you cannot red shirt that season. That rule is still in effect and is completely independent from the transfer portal.

Earlier during this camp Shipley made a comment effectively saying the last year the big game intensity may have hurt his performance. Now the game has slowed down for him. I’m betting that this topic has been a emphasis point from the coaches. Shipley, the WRs and especially DJ need to be more relaxed, let the game come to them, and trust their abilities and training. If DJ can calm down, show some touch with his throws, and shrug off the pressure, the Tigers will be just fine.

I may be mistaken, but I do not think the change in rules

Aug 13, 2022, 6:10 PM

about the Transfer Portal has any impact on eligibility. IF you play in 5 games in a season, from an eligibility standpoint, that season is still gone?

Have you been watching this team for the last 6-8 years?? CK will get plenty of playing time. Whether it is the whole second half when the game is in hand or alternating possessions like KB/TL is yet to be seen, but he will get lots of playing time either way.
